97a, Forthright, Full Speed Ahead, Lost Cause, SOV, To Each His Own
This was the record release show for 97a’s “It’s In Our Power” record. Rain On The Parade are on some flyers for this show, but they canceled. I don’t remember a lot about the openers and honestly Full Speed Ahead either. One of my big memories from this show is a few of my friends from college coming out and wrecking people during FSA and 97a. I interviewed 97a at this show along with my friend Carson. I had been wanting to sit down with them for a few years and it was cool to finally do so. I had…

97a, Last In Line, Shark Attack, Tear It Up, Think I Care
I have no memory of Think I Care or Last In Line from this show. I think I went to go get dinner or something after working all day. Shark Attack were great and covered Last Rites. I’m all over that video going off really hard. Tear It Up broke open this big doll and the fuzz from inside it broke all over the floor. There was a lot of drama about 97a playing this show. It’s a bit of a longer story than this, but this show is famous for the beef between them and Purpose over both playing a show on that day which spilled…

97a, Adventures In Immortality, Bleed, Elements Of Need, Hardware Fanzine, Judge, Knotwork, Still Life
This was the last show at this VFW Hall. It got shut down early and one of the people who did the show got on the mic and really ripped into the people from the VFW Hall. It was awesome to have shows be ten minutes away that summer, but oh well. Elements of Need were a local emo band, I think? I think Knotwork canceled this show. I wish I could remember Bleed because they were pretty good! Adventures In Immortality came back on their tour and played again. They looked happy to see some familiar faces when we…

97a, Automaton, Beyond, Crucial Response Records, Fanshen, Stormshadow, The Degenerics, You & I
I went to this show with my friend Rebecca. After meeting up with her, we headed up to this show, which was at a creepy Mason hall. Rebecca and I used to argue a lot in the car. She was super PC and pretty, uh, “open minded” about her hardcore, so it led to some amusing arguments. Looking back, I took that stuff way too seriously. I have not talked to her in a long time. Opening this show was Automaton, which had Alex Soudah (ex 97a) and my friend Jason Scheller, who I would meet officially a year or…

97a, American Nightmare, Damage, Minor Threat, No Justice, Parade Brigade Fanzine, The Nerve Agents, The Scarlett Letter
For some reason, I went to this show alone and the rest of the Manahawkin crew went in a different car. All the Wilkes Barre crew rode in with American Nightmare and I went to dinner with a friend at Southwest Burrito and then headed over to the show to meet up with my friends (and keep hanging out with her because, uh, I had it baaaaaad for her. You may need to add a few As there). I remember watching Damage for a few songs. That was Robby Redcheeks band. The Scarlett Letter had members of 97a, right? American…

97a, Acme, Black Flag, Born Against, Breakdown, Canephora, Capitalist Causalities, Charles Bronson, Crossed Out, Full Speed Ahead, Hail Mary, Infest, Maximum Rock N Roll, MK Ultra, Negative Aproach, No Comment, Rorschach, Spazz, Youth Brigade, Youth Of Today
After discovering Infest during the winter of 1996/1997, some of us checked out a lot of faster bands. This lead us deep into the power violence scene, which had some crossover with the more youth crew scene we were accustomed to (97a is a good example of this) checking out. We made our way towards the classics like No Comment and Crossed Out and also gravitated near bands like Rorschach, Capitalist Causalities, Acme, and others. This led to modern bands like Charles Bronson, MK Ultra, and, of course, Spazz. Oddly, there was little internet hype for this tour. I actually…

97a, Endeavor, Ensign, Floorpunch, In My Eyes, Killing Time, Lilac Ezer, Uniform Choice
I went to this show with CJ I think, but my memory is a little hazy. Floorpunch was supposed to also play this show, but they canceled because Zev was on tour with Endeavor. I know they played a few shows with Little Dave or Zusi on bass, but this one got canceled. Instead, after a few openers, we got a surprise three song set by In My Eyes, which included a Uniform Choice cover. Is there a video? I am probably all over that. 97a played as well. I think their 12″ had just come out. I do not…

We put out Parade Brigade Fanzine #1 in the spring of 1999. I have no idea what show we released it for, but I think it was at Manville Elks Lodge. Maybe. Amendment 18 Demo This band has members of a number of bands (Insted, Chorus Of Disapproval, Outspoken, etc) I had different expectations for this demo expecting more moshy stuff, but I got straight forward hardcore with interesting breakdowns. Lyrically, this isn’t as “militant,” as xChorusx was, but good all around especially “Eulogy.” I look forward to more. BW Bane Holding This Moment Equal Vision Records Bane sort of…

My first show of 1997 was in Bordentown, NJ at the Fieldsboro VFW (which apparently doesn’t exist anymore?). When I began teaching at BCC in 2009, I noticed I drove near Bordentown every day on my commute and it always made me think of the shows I went to at this venue (Also, Vincenttown. Do the punks still slam there?). I missed the two other Floorpunch shows here (one with Rain On The Parade and Vision, and the other with Human Remains and Earth Crisis). I went to this show with a bunch of friends, two of which, John Piorkowski…

97a, Black Flag, Fired Up, Full Speed Ahead, Matt Smith, Rain On The Parade, Ronnie Little, The Swarm
There were two big things that stood out about this show. First, this was the final show of 97a’s summer tour that had taken them across the country, which a bit of controversy along the way, and they returned home to play a house show in New Brunswick. This was also the first show back for Rain On The Parade, who had broken up, in New Brunswick even, the previous fall. Ronny and Matt had started a new band called Fired Up in between and, with a few lineup changes, those songs were merged into Rain On The Parade and…
