Better Than A Thousand-Speak 714-In My Eyes-Battery at Melody Bar in New Brunswick, NJ 7-15-98

Honestly, this was a weird show. A few super bullshit things happened. During In My Eyes one of those douchey Boston dudes got all weird with me because I knew the words to their precious new songs. I had gotten an advance CD a few days before and had played it a lot so I could sing along. I kept getting weird looks that screamed “oh my god, someone from outside our crew knows the secret too!” I have no idea what Battery were like, but I packed it up front for Speak 714. Afterwards, I went up to Dan…

In The Blink Of An Eye Fanzine #2: The Reviews

These were the reviews from In The Blink Of An Eye Fanzine #2 (#1 was a brief one pager that a few of these reviews appeared in originally). After a few issues of What Was Said, I switched names and tried pretty unsuccessfully to reboot the fanzine. A lot of the same problems that plagued WWS were all over this one too. This came out in the summer of 1998. I am thinking late in the month of August perhaps? I did not do another fanzine for about eight months before the first issue of Parade Brigade Fanzine came together.…

Better Than A 1000-In My Eyes-Speak 714-Good Clean Fun-Battery at YWCA Philadelphia PA 7-12-98

Fresh off working 15 days straight because my burn out boss couldn’t get it together to hire someone else, I headed to Philadelphia to check out the Revelation Records rehash tour heading through America during the summer of 1998. I kind of didn’t like most of these bands, but we wanted to see In My Eyes and interview Dan O Mahoney, so off we went. I remember absolutely nothing about Battery, but I think Good Clean Fun jumped on after them. They had just put out their demo, so the, uh, “joke” was pretty fresh at this point, which would…

Mouthpiece-Earth Crisis–Floorpunch-Battery-Lots of Others @ Middlesex County College In Edison NJ 6-28-96

A lot has been said about this show and how it ended, but more on that in a bit… I went to this show with my friend Crystal, who sadly died in 2001. Her mother Elizabeth, who was by far the coolest parent in our crew (more on her in a bit too) drove us up to Edison, dropped us off, and went…somewhere? Her sister’s house? Maybe? A LOT of bands played this show. Middlesex shows were typical five to eight bands, and then a few more added on. I only vaguely remember most of them and spent a lot…

Get Down-Second Seven Inch

Get Down Second 7″ Piss Mountain Records After a few years of delay, this record finally came out last year. I have had a tape of it for many years, but I am glad it finally came out officially. Get Down was a short lived band, not surprisingly, reminding me of early Supertouch and bands like Swiz and Verbal Assault. After two seven inches, it seems like this band was starting to get their sound down, so it is unfortunate they didn’t do anything else. Members of Ten Yard Fight, In My Eyes, and Battery. As far as I can tell,…

Ten Yard Fight

I did this one with John Lacroix in the fall of 1996. This was while Anthony was still around; in fact, I believe it may have been a week or two after the Hardcore Pride 7” came out. Originally in What Was Said #1 *** Who is in the band, and what do they play? Wrench-Vocals John-Bass Chris-Guitar Anthony-Guitar Ryan-Drums *** What do you have out and coming out? We did a demo, which we made 700 of and now it’s being repressed on vinyl by SOA Records. We did a 7” called Hardcore Pride on Big Wheel which will…

25 Ta Life

I did this interview with Rick Healey of the band 25 Ta Life via mail in June of 1996 *** What are the band members names? Beto-GuitarRick-Vocals Harry-Drums Warren-Bass Fred-Guitar *** How long have you guys been together? 25 Ta Life first started in February of 1993 after I went on tour with Agnostic Front. I came back from the tour, Agnostic Front was breaking up, and I wanted to start a band similar to Agnostic Front; a band about the scene, about sticking together, to educate the kids, to motivate people, and get them active doing fanzines, helping each…
