Parade Brigade Fanzine #1: The Reviews

We put out Parade Brigade Fanzine #1 in the spring of 1999. I have no idea what show we released it for, but I think it was at Manville Elks Lodge. Maybe. Amendment 18 Demo This band has members of a number of bands (Insted, Chorus Of Disapproval, Outspoken, etc) I had different expectations for this demo expecting more moshy stuff, but I got straight forward hardcore with interesting breakdowns. Lyrically, this isn’t as “militant,” as xChorusx was, but good all around especially “Eulogy.” I look forward to more. BW Bane Holding This Moment Equal Vision Records Bane sort of…

Ludicra-Fex Urbis Orbis

Ludicra Fex Urbis Lex Orbis CD Alternative Tentacles Records I know very little about black metal, so I am not sure how to review this. Ludicra are on Alternative Tentacles (?!?) and remind me a lot of Cradle Of Filth, I guess. Like I said, I know very little about this stuff. I read online that a lot of this band’s lyrics are inspired by Les Miserables. That is pretty cool I guess. Check with Chris Alpino before buying.

Nausea-Punk Terrorist Anthology Volume One

Nausea Punk Terrorist Anthology Volume One CD Alternative Tentacles Records Nausea have always been a band I have had mixed feelings about. I first heard them on The Way It Is and was blown away by their track Fallout Of Our Being. At the time, I was going to a friend’s house almost every weekend to dub his older brother’s vinyl. One Friday afternoon at school I gave him a tape to dub me the Rites of Spring EP, The Year In Seven Inches, and Nausea’s Extinction LP. When I got home I quickly listened through the first side; I’d…

Jello Biafra & The Melvins-Seig Howdy

Jello Biafra & The Melvins Seig Howdy CD Alternative Tentacles Records After being pleasantly surprised by their debut CD last year, I have to say this follow up is a bit of a disappointment. While still funneled through a Melvins style sound meeting something like Bl’ast! Many of the song on this record are kind of crappy. They drag on forever and honestly would work a lot better as two songs split in half. I do like Those Dumb Punk Kids Will Buy Anything. I think there is something to be said for simplicity, and if this collaboration cut their…

I Object-Teaching Revenge

I Object Teaching Revenge CD Alternative Tentacles Records Wow! I Object are a great new band on Alternative Tentacles who play homage to old harDCore. I hear a lot of SOA, The Untouchables, and Minor Threat here. If I would’ve been told this was an unreleased tape from the Flex Your Head era I wouldn’t have thought twice. I am also very pleased by the lyrics on this one, especially Like A Billboard.

Report Suspicious Activities

Report Suspicious Activities S/T CD Alternative Tentacles Records I was pretty curious about this record before I heard it. This band is the new project for members of Jawbox and Articles of Faith. Cool combo. What you get however is a mixed bag of a record that ultimately is a bit of a letdown. Some of the songs on here generally are really good. They are heavy, sometimes melodic, and a little sludgy. However, a lot of them are either about three minutes too long or get bogged down in a lot of attempting to experiment in the music. There…
