Show Memories: Final 97a Show

Who took this photo? Please let me know! Oh geez, that horrible “pre-mosh” look on my face! Sweet Straight Ahead shirt though. And look at the motley crew singing along in that picture! 97a’s final show came in the weeks after 9-11 and was, I think, my first show since a series of horrific events (frankly, by the 11th a terrorist attack was the least of my concerns when your best friend was dead and another had tried to commit suicide as well) of the first part of the month. The show was in far, far, north New Jersey and…

Winter Reviews

Innumerable Forms Frozen To Death Tape Chris Corry and DFJ’s death metal project put out a seven inch a few years back, but this tape shows a lot of progression. The tape has two new songs and the three songs from their previous ep remixed for this new release. I am not so sure how many copies of this tape were made, but track it down if you enjoyed their seven inch. Confined Demo 2012 Pretty generic hardcore somewhere, I am not sure which is more of an influence, between Chain of Strength influenced bands like Champion and Count Me…

November 2011 Reviews

Sick Fucking O Demo Members of Voorhees are back with a new band that sounds like…Voorhees. Obviously, not as classic as Spilling Blood Without Reason, but good angry 82 era hardcore that will be enjoyed by fans of Voorhees for sure. Cool Devo cover at the end. Defile Demo 2010 Fast, angry, hardcore somewhere between midwestern style and power violence. I bet live you can hear a bit of Rorschach in their sound too. I’d like to hear more. Slowburn Demo Members of a variety of NJHC bands including Spirit, Vision, and Floorpunch playing melodic, Turning Point, style hardcore. This…

Show Review: The Rival Mob-Give-Stick Together-Mob Mentality @ Asbury Lanes Asbury Park NJ 2-18-11

My first show of 2011, and first since the summer, had me traveling up to Asbury Park at the last minute to see a few bands I’ve been meaning to check out. After a long afternoon in my office, (someone pays me to code wikis and listen to Discharge…what a world) and a quick trip to Walmart for earplugs, where I observed a near fight, I was off to Asbury Park. Parkway North is such a mess. Potholes everywhere, construction half completed, and a massive amount of shitty drivers on the road. Can I have my taxes back? Getting to…

Mind Eraser

Mind Eraser are my favorite hardcore band right now. I was very impressed by their demo and then totally blown away by the Cave LP. I did this interview last week with Chris Corry. *** Was releasing the demo online a conscious choice the band made? In the age of $5 demo tapes and CDR demos that can hold 80 minutes of music but only have three songs on them, it was quite refreshing to see the Mind Eraser stuff online for everyone with a net connection to be able to check out. Nah it wasn’t really any kind of…
