Ensign-Speak 714-Automatic-Rain On The Parade @ Princeton Arts Council In Princeton NJ 5-16-98

I was going to make it a three day weekened after the Breakdown show the day before with a Ten Yard Fight show in Philadelphia on Sunday, but I busted up my hand real bad at this show. Automatic was a new band with members of Mouthpiece and By The Grace Of God. They played melodic hardcore (ugh). I interviewed them but never printed it because it came out really badly. Rain On The Parade were, uh, Rain On The Parade. Princeton Arts Council had a nice stage, so I remember getting off a bunch of good dives and even…

Redemption 87-Ensign-Uprise-Rain On The Parade-In My Eyes-Bladecrasher @ New Providence American Legion Hall New Providence NJ 5-30-97

This might have been the first show I ever drove to, but I am not sure. Redemption 87 was one of the first of the “bringing it back” bands that emerged in the middle of the nineties. Their record suddenly popped up in the local record store, advertised as ex members of Token Entry and Unit Pride. Oh, really? Well the record was pretty good, although has not held up that well, and the hype around them was pretty massive. New Providence is at least an hour and a half from Manahawkin, probably more, and I think we took two…

Ignite-Hands Tied-Fastbreak-Rain On The Parade-9 Lives at Fieldsboro NJ 4-20-97

The above video is from the day before at The Down Under in New Brunswick, but I went to see the newly reunited (and minus see crappy songs) Agnostic Front with Madball, Crown of Thornz, and some others. Seasonal allergies had just hit that week, so I was pretty sick after going crazy (and getting in a fight where like seven TOTALLY TOUGH AND SCARY skinheads went after me for DARING to try to break up a fight. One of them was like THIS IS NOT YOUR CONCERN. Oh, why didn’t you tell me this was SKINHEAD BUSINESS? Carry on!)…

In The Blink Of An Eye Fanzine #2: The Reviews

These were the reviews from In The Blink Of An Eye Fanzine #2 (#1 was a brief one pager that a few of these reviews appeared in originally). After a few issues of What Was Said, I switched names and tried pretty unsuccessfully to reboot the fanzine. A lot of the same problems that plagued WWS were all over this one too. This came out in the summer of 1998. I am thinking late in the month of August perhaps? I did not do another fanzine for about eight months before the first issue of Parade Brigade Fanzine came together.…

Kill Your Idols-Ten Yard Fight-Tears of Frustration-Blind Society at Stewart’s Root Beer in Manahawkin, NJ Summer 1999

This show was actually sort of imfamous because Ten Yard Fight apparently broke up a day or two before the show (and would play a final show at the idiotic “Edge Day” thing later in the year). Kill Your Idols also cancelled at the last minute, which I ended up fielding a bunch of calls about. I think my phone number got attached to the show contact info somehow? I showed up to the show after work and caught a few of Tears of Frustration’s songs. I remember they were playing a War Zone cover as I parked, which was…

Bane-Ten Yard Fight-Tears Of Frustration-Reach The Sky-Step Ahead @ Berkeley Heights 12-12-98

Who else played this show? A few others must have at least. In My Eyes were advertised, but I do not think they played? I went to this show with my friend Carson. Reach The Sky were kind of a hot, up and coming, band at the time. Carson got in a fight during Tears of Frustration after dancing pretty hard for them and a few people taking exception to him shoving someone. He was pretty bummed at how it all went down. Bane were not quite yet a huge band and looking back not many people really checked them…

Parade Brigade Fanzine #1: The Reviews

We put out Parade Brigade Fanzine #1 in the spring of 1999. I have no idea what show we released it for, but I think it was at Manville Elks Lodge. Maybe. Amendment 18 Demo This band has members of a number of bands (Insted, Chorus Of Disapproval, Outspoken, etc) I had different expectations for this demo expecting more moshy stuff, but I got straight forward hardcore with interesting breakdowns. Lyrically, this isn’t as “militant,” as xChorusx was, but good all around especially “Eulogy.” I look forward to more. BW Bane Holding This Moment Equal Vision Records Bane sort of…

Parade Brigade Fanzine #2: The Reviews

All three “staff members” did reviews for issue two. BW=Bill Wend, John=John Piorkowski, Ferret=Justin Bragg I got a ton of shit in the weeks before that In My Eyes record came out. I got it in the mail, listened a few times, and posted one morning on the Rev Board that I did not like it. I said it reminded me of Better Than A Thousand and was kind of shitty. I went to class and came back to this huge thread about what a fag/loser/pussy I was. LOL. Oh noes, I didn’t like your precious friend’s band and their…

The Final Mosh: Cro Mags-Floorpunch-Breakdown at CBGB New York City NY 5-20-00

It is hilarious how infamous this show has become over the years, but, uh, yeah…it was pretty good… Floorpunch came back from their European tour in the 1999 and seemed to drop off the face of the earth. They were supposed to play a gig that May with Vision and In My Eyes (where a bunch of pics from their second LP were taken. Oh, look, it’s me!) at Berkeley Heights, but dropped off (and so did Vision and I think h2o too. In My Eyes ended up headlining…I think…we will get to that show eventually) and then word seemed…

Floorpunch-Ten Yard Fight-Hands Tied-Fastbreak-Uprise-Bladecrasher-Last Straw-9 Lives at Fieldsboro VFW in Bordentown NJ 1-4-97

My first show of 1997 was in Bordentown, NJ at the Fieldsboro VFW (which apparently doesn’t exist anymore?). When I began teaching at BCC in 2009, I noticed I drove near Bordentown every day on my commute and it always made me think of the shows I went to at this venue (Also, Vincenttown. Do the punks still slam there?). I missed the two other Floorpunch shows here (one with Rain On The Parade and Vision, and the other with Human Remains and Earth Crisis). I went to this show with a bunch of friends, two of which, John Piorkowski…
