Winter Reviews

Innumerable Forms Frozen To Death Tape Chris Corry and DFJ’s death metal project put out a seven inch a few years back, but this tape shows a lot of progression. The tape has two new songs and the three songs from their previous ep remixed for this new release. I am not so sure how many copies of this tape were made, but track it down if you enjoyed their seven inch. Confined Demo 2012 Pretty generic hardcore somewhere, I am not sure which is more of an influence, between Chain of Strength influenced bands like Champion and Count Me…

Winter 2012 Reviews

Nomos Demo Great 82 style hardcore from this New York band. There are a lot of modern influences on this band’s demo including Cold Sweat, The Snobs, and other, hey, early 00 bands. I would like to hear more. Our Side Demo Really raw, late eighties, influenced hardcore in the vein of Release, Youth Of Today, and Four Walls Falling. With a better recording, I sense this band could be pretty good. I want to hear more. Pigsticker Demo I really like this demo. Pigsticker reminds me a cross between Circle Jerks and Necros with sloppy, raw, production values that sounds pretty authentic to the early eighties…

Reviews For The Week of August 15th

A 1965 performance of Naima by John Coltrane.   Antidote Thou Shalt Not Kill 7″ Bridge 9 Records Along with Infest, when I got into hardcore there wasn’t another band talked about in such mysterious and hushed tones as Antidote. The record was expensive, but the music was great. There was a bootleg 12″ of it with other early NYC eps (Cause For Alarm, The Abused and either The Mob or Urban Waste), but for most people, this was a record to get on tape, which I had a really nice dub from a virtually mint copy in 1997. Obviously,…

Reviews For The Week Of August 8th

I don’t need to explain this one. Bad Brains 171A Sessions 7″ Has anyone else noticed that a lot of Bad Brains demos are popping up the past few years? These are three versions of songs you probably know, but heavier than say the Black Dots session. A live, horrible, reggae song ends the record. Not really that essential. Waste Management Tape Members of Mind Eraser, etc doing really ILL Boston 82 hardcore ala SSD. The best part about this one is the pleading, furious, Springa style vocals. One of the best bands going today. There is a live set…

Look Back & Laugh-Street Terrorism

Look Back & Laugh Street Terrorism 7″ Deranged Records I’ve always liked Look Back & Laugh, and their previous bands, but this record isn’t really grabbing me. It isn’t the music, which is just as good as their previous two full lengths and split with the mighty DropDead. The production is pretty muddy. I saw a listing online which said that these are five “unreleased” songs, so maybe these are leftovers from one of those sessions? Either way, if you like Look Back & Laugh, check this one out. They are a great band and one iffy 7″ is not…
