Infest-Iron Lung-Scapegoat-Wound Man-Pure Disgust @ Philadelphia PA 11-12-16

This gig was definitely overshadowed a bit by the recent presidential election, which featured two of the most repugnant human beings I have ever encountered. Seeing people from the hardcore scene cheer on either of them makes my skin crawl. Infest however stepped up and absolutely tore the house down. John and I headed out to this show after he met up with me where I live now. We caught up on the way. It was nice to be with him in such disturbing times. He has the same vicious, cynical, unrelenting humor that I do. We always felt a…

Top Ten Records Of 2016

I realized as I began reading the lists that other people put together I have heard very little new music this year. What I did check out was mostly exceptional. Here is a general top ten since it would be silly to break this up… A Tribe Called Quest-We Got It From Here Thank You 4 Your Service Alienation-Self Titled Arms Race-New Wave Of British Hardcore Betty Davis-The Columbia Years 1968-1969 Framtid-The Horrific Visions Innumerable Forms-Petrified Omegas-Power To Exist Think I Care-Singles Collection True Vision-Against The Grain Wound Man-Perimeter Gigs: Infest, Youth Of Today, Leeway, Breakdown

Some Reviews

These never went up last year I guess… Magic Circle Scream Evil People from the usual Boston bands come together to do this two song single of Late seventies and early eighties inspired Black Sabbath style metal. This reminds me a lot of the excellent Dio era record The Mob Rules. I have heard there is an LP out now? Manpig The Grand Negative Deep Six Records I love being proven wrong in hardcore, and the fact that this long rumoured record finally has happened is a great example of this. Manpig has been a legendarily rumoured band as long…

Spazz-Canephora-Full Speed Ahead-Hail Mary at Bates Lodge in Red Bank NJ June 1997

After discovering Infest during the winter of 1996/1997, some of us checked out a lot of faster bands. This lead us deep into the power violence scene, which had some crossover with the more youth crew scene we were accustomed to (97a is a good example of this) checking out. We made our way towards the classics like No Comment and Crossed Out and also gravitated near bands like Rorschach, Capitalist Causalities, Acme, and others. This led to modern bands like Charles Bronson, MK Ultra, and, of course, Spazz. Oddly, there was little internet hype for this tour. I actually…

Parade Brigade Fanzine #1: The Reviews

We put out Parade Brigade Fanzine #1 in the spring of 1999. I have no idea what show we released it for, but I think it was at Manville Elks Lodge. Maybe. Amendment 18 Demo This band has members of a number of bands (Insted, Chorus Of Disapproval, Outspoken, etc) I had different expectations for this demo expecting more moshy stuff, but I got straight forward hardcore with interesting breakdowns. Lyrically, this isn’t as “militant,” as xChorusx was, but good all around especially “Eulogy.” I look forward to more. BW Bane Holding This Moment Equal Vision Records Bane sort of…

April 2012 Reviews

Stick Together Demo This Wilkes-Barre band plays 88 style hardcore that reminds me a lot of Four Walls Falling and Release. Good stuff. Mindless Human Conditioning Tape Despite their name, Mindless are not so kind of Infest worship band (although I call dibs on Human Conditioning as a band name…I dig it). Mindless remind me a bit of His Hero Is Gone, but with some 1990’s power violence influence (Charles Bronson I think?). This is a pretty interesting sound and I would like to hear more from them. Fashionable Activism #2 I really liked the firsti ssue of this fanzine…
