The Nerve Agents-No Justice-American Nightmare-Damage-The Scarlett Letter @ The Melody Bar New Brunswick NJ 7-27-00

For some reason, I went to this show alone and the rest of the Manahawkin crew went in a different car. All the Wilkes Barre crew rode in with American Nightmare and I went to dinner with a friend at Southwest Burrito and then headed over to the show to meet up with my friends (and keep hanging out with her because, uh, I had it baaaaaad for her. You may need to add a few As there). I remember watching Damage for a few songs. That was Robby Redcheeks band. The Scarlett Letter had members of 97a, right? American…

Shelter-Downset-H2o-Fury of V at Stone Pony Asbury Park NJ 5-5-96

During the winter of 1995-1996, I did not really go to shows for some reason. I think it was a combination of a lack of rides (I was still 16 and about a year away from having my own car) and starting at my first ever job. Our friend who drove to shows dropped out of high school and went through some pretty serious personal problems around this time, so we had to scramble to get other rides, which led to a lot of missed shows. Shelter came through the area and I drove up this show with Crystal and…

Parade Brigade Fanzine #1: The Reviews

We put out Parade Brigade Fanzine #1 in the spring of 1999. I have no idea what show we released it for, but I think it was at Manville Elks Lodge. Maybe. Amendment 18 Demo This band has members of a number of bands (Insted, Chorus Of Disapproval, Outspoken, etc) I had different expectations for this demo expecting more moshy stuff, but I got straight forward hardcore with interesting breakdowns. Lyrically, this isn’t as “militant,” as xChorusx was, but good all around especially “Eulogy.” I look forward to more. BW Bane Holding This Moment Equal Vision Records Bane sort of…

The Business-War Zone-Blanks 77-Cause For Alarm-Blood For Blood @ Wetlands In New York City NY 3-2-97

This was, I think, the first time I went to a show in New York City. I went with a few of the local skinheads, this girl Jessica and her boyfriend Chris, and I think someone else tagged along. They wanted to see The Business; I really wanted to see War Zone. After the hour and a half or so drive from the shore, we met up with some of their friends and a few of mine, who informed us that War Zone were filiming a video at the show (see above). I remember standing on line for a long…

Speak 714 Interview Part One

By 1998 I was really falling out of love with the whole “1997” youth crew revival thing. Also, during this time period, as I entered college I began dealing with my own sexuality in a frank and real way for the first time. I was a late bloomer to say the least. The fall of 1997 and spring/summer of 1998 was filled with three very confusing and frustrating relationships where I dealt directly with a lot of what Dan talks about. I didn’t have the emotional or sexual maturity to really engage with them at the time in any meaningful…

Fists of Fury

A friend forwarded me this picture a few months ago and a flood of memories came back. Yes, that is me, shirtless (!!!), about to stage dive and the band playing is Fists Of Fury, who were the local hardcore band in our town. Fists of Fury did two (?) demos and sounded like a lot of early 82 NY/DC bands. They covered Cause For Alarm, Minor Threat, etc. This show was sometime in the summer of 1997. They just decided to play in the afternoon and busted it out. I think this is in the backyard of this kid…

Pushead Top 100 Podcast Part One

Here’s the idea: Instead of doing regular Signifying Nothing podcasts this summer, I thought a cool idea would be to do podcasts chronicling the famous Top 100 Records of the Eighties that Pushead did many years ago. If people like this, I’d love to try it with various specific record labels too. Twenty songs for each. I think this will be cool. July 8th 2006: Forward To Death-Government Warning-Career Suicide-Splitting Headache-Wasted Time

July 8th 2006 Forward To Death–Government Warning–Career Suicide–Splitting Headache–Wasted Time This was my first show in awhile. I made the quick journey up to Toms River alone this time around. I think Dave had to work at the last minute and well, that’s about the only other person who goes to shows with me around here. After getting dinner I hit up the Log Cabin, which is quickly becoming a great place for shows. New Jersey’s own Splitting Headache opened up and played a great set. They played a good mix of songs from their EP and some new ones,…
