I ended off 2013 by heading out to see the Cro-Mags. I needed to go back to the shore while on vacation to see my parents, so it was great I could time this visit with a Monday night show in Brick. My pal Bob Shedd booked this one at the old Brick VFW, one of seemingly numerous VFW halls in Brick, where bands like Breakdown, The Casualties, Righteous Jams, and many others have played over the years. Stick Together Demo This Wilkes-Barre band plays 88 style hardcore that reminds me a lot of Four Walls Falling and Release. Good stuff. Mindless Human Conditioning Tape Despite their name, Mindless are not so kind of Infest worship band (although I call dibs on Human Conditioning as a band name…I dig it). Mindless remind me a bit of His Hero Is Gone, but with some 1990’s power violence influence (Charles Bronson I think?). This is a pretty interesting sound and I would like to hear more from them. Nomos Demo Great 82 style hardcore from this New York band. There are a lot of modern influences on this band’s demo including Cold Sweat, The Snobs, and other, hey, early 00 bands. I would like to hear more. Our Side Demo Really raw, late eighties, influenced hardcore in the vein of Release, Youth Of Today, and Four Walls Falling. With a better recording, I sense this band could be pretty good. I want to hear more. Pigsticker Demo I really like this demo. Pigsticker reminds me a cross between Circle Jerks and Necros with sloppy, raw, production values that sounds pretty authentic to the early eighties…

My first show of 2011, and first since the summer, had me traveling up to Asbury Park at the last minute to see a few bands I’ve been meaning to check out. After a long afternoon in my office, (someone pays me to code wikis and listen to Discharge…what a world) and a quick trip to Walmart for earplugs, where I observed a near fight, I was off to Asbury Park.
