Pointless Fest 2003

John and I made the trek to Philadelphia in a pouring rainstorm for this show. I remember we listened to some random reissue of Sabbath’s “Live At Last” album that totally remixed and messed with that record. We walked in just as Tragedy began playing and they were great as usual. Hilarious story from this show: So they bust into “The Day After,” which has this awesome mosh part in the middle. All the scumbag crust punks are walking around in a circle, so a friend of mine and I start moshing and going off. I got grabbed by some…

Tragedy @ First Unitarian Church In Philadelphia PA 8-13-04

John and I weren’t at this show for very long. We only wanted to see Tragedy and we bailed right after they finished. I do not remember any of the other bands that played except for World Inferno Friendship Society and maybe Witch Hunt. I do remember I met Al Quint from Suburban Voice Fanzine for the first time in person at this show. I had known him for years from the internet, but it was nice to hang out with him for a bit before Tragedy played. Tragedy were awesome and played a good mix of their albums. They…

This Is Hardcore 2013

t seems that I make an annual trek now to This Is Hardcore for at least one of the days. A few of my friends went to see Tragedy the night before, but I had to wrap up grading for a summer class so I could not go. I wanted to clear out grading so I had the weekend to myself so I could see Judge. I thought I left for the show early enough to catch World War IV, but some traffic miscues and finding parking meant I only caught their last two or three songs. They sounded good…

Summer Reviews

Things have been slow around here lately. Some of it is lack of motivation, a lot of that stems from a decent downswing in readers/listeners, but also in content. I have not had a lot to say lately for some reasons that, maybe, I will write about sometime. *** Real Cops Demo Excellent NJHC that reminds me of bands like Full Speed Ahead and Tear It Up (who members of this band were in). I see a lot of potential here. *** Sucked Dry Demo Wow, another band that sounds like Cold Sweat is a big influence on them. Obviously, other bands like Crossed Out and Rorschach are also big influences. I…

Siamese Twins Demo More Nu-Shoegazer stuff from this band. I seem to be checking out a lot of these bands lately. This six song demo is pretty good, but not something that is really drawing my attention that much. I’m not a big fan of Catherine Wheel and that, along with a bit of Lush, is what this demo reminds me of. There are some elements of The Cure or Sisters of Mercy immersed in their sound as well, which is a little different but nevertheless not really my thing. Big shoegazer fans will want to check this out. Outlast New Jersey…
