Alive & Well 8-30-98

Mercifully, this show got moved to Casino Skate Park. The openers were Full Speed Ahead, OS101, and Kid Dynamite, who were still fairly new and I had not yet heard before this show. I was not impressed. The bottomline is every band got their normal excellent reactions, but especially Vision and Floorpunch. Burn were really good. There were a couple of scuffles during their set because people were going off hard. I remember being told to avoid someone because “you don’t want to fuck with him.” Whatever.

Matt Leveton Benefit 1999

The first ever benefit for Matt Leveton was in January 1999. Matt used to book shows at Manville and got seriously hurt in a car crash. These shows were a really big deal at the time and a nice showing of what can happen when the hardcore scene comes together for something good. The first day was highlighted by a reunion show for Strength 691. I remember seeing a lot of people who I had not seen in a few years, which is an odd feeling when you are 19, and hung around catching up with a lot of people.…

Ensign-Grey Area-Kid Dynamite-Kill Your Idols-All Chrome @ Manville Elks Lodge Manville NJ 4-2-99

We made sure to get to this show early for two reasons. First, this was the debut show for the first issue of Parade Brigade Fanzine. We sold a bunch during the show and handed a bunch to various bands for them to get rid of. Second, we had heard All Chrome was a new band from Massachusetts that sounded like Verbal Assault. They sort of did, but with some 90s emo influences. The CD of their records was on constant rotation in my room for a few years after this show. Kill Your Idols were becoming a really hyped…

Show Review: Supertouch @ Asbury Lanes 2-3-12

I haven’t seen Supertouch since the middle of the nineties or so, so I was pretty excited about seeing them. Especially since it was an all ages show as well. I’ve heard mixed reviews of recent Supertouch gigs, but checking some videos on Youtube made it seem like they were tight and played all the classics people in New Jersey want to hear. After a day of teaching, I went home and ate dinner and then hung out for a few hours before making the hourish trek up to Asbury Park. I missed a few of the openers, including Born…

Not Normal Fanzine

Not Normal was a fanzine I started in 2002 but never really got it off the ground. I did like the idea of combining more personal writing (2002 was a particularly ugly time in my life for a variety of reasons) with hardcore content, but a second issue did not really go anywhere. I am happy still with most of what is here. It is definitely a time capsule of that time in my life. Not Normal #1 would have probably featured The Snobs and a reprinted Bikini Kill interview. The Snobs broke up before I could interview them and…
