Snake Apartment Paint The Walls LP Parts Unknown Records One of the better bands of the past few years has been Snake Apartment. After an impressive demo, they followed it up with this LP. Influenced by early Nirvana, Wurm, Melvins, Malfunkshun, and others, Snake Apartment play very dirty hardcore that would have fit in well on SST or Sub Pop in the mid to late eighties. Definitely worth checking out.

Rilo Kiley, Sub Pop Records, The Elected
The Elected Sun, Sun, Sun CD Sub Pop Records I wasn’t really sure what to do with this one when I received it from Sub Pop. The Elected have members of the band Rilo Kiley, who are apparently a big indie band? I had no idea. Honestly this isn’t half bad. The Elected play folky, almost country, sounding stuff. Some of the songs get pretty loud and remind me of something from the seventies. This record definitely grew on me as I listened to it. If you like this kind of thing check it out.

Sleater Kinney, Sub Pop Records
Sleater Kinney Entertain CD Single Sub Pop Records This is the first single from The Woods. Entertain is easily my favorite song on the record. This song is fast (for S-K at least) and very heavy. I love the drumming on here! This, and the other single Jumpers, should be the biggest songs in the universe right now. Everything is a decent b-side and while a live version of The Fox is great, I have a lot of shows from this summer’s Sleater Kinney touring already.
