Malfunkshun, Melvins, Nirvana, Parts Unknown Records, Snake Apartment, SST Records, Sub Pop Records, Wurm
Snake Apartment Paint The Walls LP Parts Unknown Records One of the better bands of the past few years has been Snake Apartment. After an impressive demo, they followed it up with this LP. Influenced by early Nirvana, Wurm, Melvins, Malfunkshun, and others, Snake Apartment play very dirty hardcore that would have fit in well on SST or Sub Pop in the mid to late eighties. Definitely worth checking out.

Alternative Tentacles Records, Bl'ast!, Jello Biafra & The Melvins, Melvins
Jello Biafra & The Melvins Seig Howdy CD Alternative Tentacles Records After being pleasantly surprised by their debut CD last year, I have to say this follow up is a bit of a disappointment. While still funneled through a Melvins style sound meeting something like Bl’ast! Many of the song on this record are kind of crappy. They drag on forever and honestly would work a lot better as two songs split in half. I do like Those Dumb Punk Kids Will Buy Anything. I think there is something to be said for simplicity, and if this collaboration cut their…

Annihilation Time, Black Flag, Eyehategod, Henry Rollins, Melvins, SST Records
Black Flag My War LP SST Records 1983 I first heard My War the summer after my first year of college. My War was exactly what I needed at the time; the brutality, the dense often claustrophobic feeling of the record perfectly captured what I was, and still am, feeling at the time. I listened to this record so often that it became a joke amongst my friends whenever they came over I would have this on my turntable. This is a rather influential record. Bands like Eyehategod, The Melvins, and Annihilation Time are greatly influenced by this record. A…

Holy crap, a lot of Newz U Can Uze After a couple years of work, Bridge Nine Records is going to be putting out the Schism Fanzine book. I have not had originals of the Schism issues in a couple years, so I am excited to check it out again. In sort of Schism related news, Ronny Little has a new interview with Alex Brown up about Schism’s precursor Loveseat. Porcell is now playing guitar for Bold yet again. I am not really a fan, but good luck to those guys. I am looking forward to the Generations compilation on…
