XClaim! were an Australian band in the mid to late nineties. I was very friendly with their vocalist Craig, who also did Talk Is Cheap and Edge Of Quarrel Fanzines. I did this interview with Craig over AOL Instant Messenger in April of 1998. We reference a tape compilation that we were trying to put together at the time. I will make a separate post to discuss that. BW: Who is all in XClaim! Craig: Terrific opening question Billy…but since you live in youth crew central, that being New Jersey for you slower people, I’ll answer this one. XClaim! is…

Desperate Measures, Far From Breaking, Flower Travellin Band, Iron Age, Leeway, Metallica, Painkiller Records, The Icemen
Iron Age The Way Is Narrow EP Painkiller Records Iron Age, featuring former members of Far From Breaking and Desperate Measures, continue to put out excellent metallic hardcore similar to Leeway, The Icemen, and early Metallica. Side A is a new song that evolves further from their debut LP, getting heavier and more urgent like Leeway. Side B is a fantastic cover of Flower Travellin Band’s song Satori Part One. That was a nice surprise and very well done.

Burn, Desperate Measures, Far From Breaking, Iron Age, Lockin Out Records, Metallica, The Icemen
Iron Age Butcher’s Bill 7″ Lockin Out Records Three new ones that I believe are going to be on their next record. These continue in the same vein as their excellent LP Constant Struggle. The Icemen, early Metallica, and Burn are definite reference points here. I just hope the metal influences don’t overwhelm them. Members of this band were in Far From Breaking and Desperate Measures, but this is far from that sound.

Cro-Mags, Crumbsuckers, Icepick, Iron Age, Madball, Metallica, True Blue, Youngblood Records
Iron Age Constant Struggle LP Youngblood Records This record came to my door hyped to death. I have to say though this is really good. If you like bands like The Cro-Mags, Crumbsuckers, True Blue, Icepick, etc you will be into this. Some songs remind me of Madball too. I dig the Metallica style riffs too. There is plenty of changes and variety on here. My only complaints are a few songs kind of drag on too long and the production is a little thin. For this kind of band I want the production to be huge ala Best Wishes.…

This interview was originally in Maximum Rock N Roll #100. This would have been reprinted in issue #2 of Not Normal Fanzine Interview May 10, 1991. Present were Nick (Guitar), Keith (guitar), Charles (vocals), seminal guitarist Jon Hiltz, and Wardance label magnate Fred Alva. Interview by Sam Mcpheeters. MRR: There seems to be a big discrepancy between the earlier material you all recorded for several comps-Evacuate’s Look At All The Children Now, and Irate’s Forever 7”-and the sound that you got on the album. It sounds like two different bands… Charles: The person we recorded the earliest stuff with, Don…
