A Chorus of Disapproval, Black Sabbath, Bold, Confront, Crucial Response Records, Deep Six Records, DYS, Helmet, Infest, Intent, Magic Circle, Manpig, Negative FX, No Comment, Outburst, Shipwrecked, Slayer, The Rival Mob
These never went up last year I guess… Magic Circle Scream Evil People from the usual Boston bands come together to do this two song single of Late seventies and early eighties inspired Black Sabbath style metal. This reminds me a lot of the excellent Dio era record The Mob Rules. I have heard there is an LP out now? Manpig The Grand Negative Deep Six Records I love being proven wrong in hardcore, and the fact that this long rumoured record finally has happened is a great example of this. Manpig has been a legendarily rumoured band as long…

t seems that I make an annual trek now to This Is Hardcore for at least one of the days. A few of my friends went to see Tragedy the night before, but I had to wrap up grading for a summer class so I could not go. I wanted to clear out grading so I had the weekend to myself so I could see Judge. I thought I left for the show early enough to catch World War IV, but some traffic miscues and finding parking meant I only caught their last two or three songs. They sounded good…

Nomos Demo Great 82 style hardcore from this New York band. There are a lot of modern influences on this band’s demo including Cold Sweat, The Snobs, and other, hey, early 00 bands. I would like to hear more. Our Side Demo Really raw, late eighties, influenced hardcore in the vein of Release, Youth Of Today, and Four Walls Falling. With a better recording, I sense this band could be pretty good. I want to hear more. Pigsticker Demo I really like this demo. Pigsticker reminds me a cross between Circle Jerks and Necros with sloppy, raw, production values that sounds pretty authentic to the early eighties…

Mind Eraser at some Scion sponsored gig. I giggled at how DFJ bums out the bouncers. Blessed Offal Self Titled Tape Death metal coming highly recommended by friends who dig this stuff. While a few songs go on forever, Blessed Offal keeps them interesting with enough changes of pace to not lose me. This is pretty good. United Youth Demo Decent 88 style hardcore that goes by in the blink of an eye. I see a lot of potential for an ep. Keep going. Talk Is Poison…one of the best bands of the past 15 years… State of Alert No Policy Bootleg LP This is a pretty complete bootleg LP with all of State of Alert’s recorded material. The No Policy 7” on Dischord, the tracks from Flex Your Head, two demos, and a live set. I’ve heard all of this before, but completeists will dig having all of this in one place. Why hasn’t Dischord done a discography for them already? Various Artists Brutal Supremacy Compilation Double 7″ Painkiller Records The long awaited debut compilation from Painkiller Records does not let down. My first show of 2011, and first since the summer, had me traveling up to Asbury Park at the last minute to see a few bands I’ve been meaning to check out. After a long afternoon in my office, (someone pays me to code wikis and listen to Discharge…what a world) and a quick trip to Walmart for earplugs, where I observed a near fight, I was off to Asbury Park. Parkway North is such a mess. Potholes everywhere, construction half completed, and a massive amount of shitty drivers on the road. Can I have my taxes back? Getting to…

The Rival Mob Bitter Rivals Demo 2007 Members of XFilesX, Mind Eraser, and others come together to combine the best parts of early Madball and Ringworm into some brutal contemporary hardcore. Very heavy riffs and great mosh parts. This band has run a bit under my rader, but I am looking into more by them for sure.

Sorry I sound so manic during this episode. I was waiting for a phone call about a job, which has had a number of bumps along the way, so I might sound a bit cranky/silly.
