Token Entry-Nerve Endings-Search-Out Of Body-Only Glory @ Philadelphia PA 7-24-16

This show seemed to pop up real suddenly a few weeks before, but I made sure to get a ticket. I have always missed Token Entry at their reunions (1994, 2011), so I definitely wanted to check them out. Adding Search to the show definitely sealed the deal for me. I missed both Out Of Body and Only Glory because I was outside waiting for a friend to arrive at the show. Nerve Endings were okay, but I didn’t feel too moved by them either way. Search are a new band member ex members of Mouthpiece, Hands Tied, Turning Point,…

Ensign-Good Riddance-Weapon X-Hands Tied-Shutdown-In My Eyes-Fastbreak @ Manville Elks Lodge Manville NJ 8-9-97

This show was one of the big end of summer shows (along with Back To School Jam and the show that Gordo did) as the summer of 1997 began to wind down. We packed a crew into my car (and literally packed lunch) and headed up to the show. Weapon X would play their only show. WX had members of Ensign, Purpose, Kurbjaw, and some others and played pretty generic 1988 hardcore. They covered Turning Point and Judge. I interviewed Nate after the show. Their 7” was released in a limited edition of 200. I ended up with a handful…

Ignite-Hands Tied-Fastbreak-Rain On The Parade-9 Lives at Fieldsboro NJ 4-20-97

The above video is from the day before at The Down Under in New Brunswick, but I went to see the newly reunited (and minus see crappy songs) Agnostic Front with Madball, Crown of Thornz, and some others. Seasonal allergies had just hit that week, so I was pretty sick after going crazy (and getting in a fight where like seven TOTALLY TOUGH AND SCARY skinheads went after me for DARING to try to break up a fight. One of them was like THIS IS NOT YOUR CONCERN. Oh, why didn’t you tell me this was SKINHEAD BUSINESS? Carry on!)…

By The Grace Of God-Up Front-Hands Tied-Rain On The Parade-Saves The Day-Rad At Yardley Community Center in Yardley, PA 12-20-97

This show is apparently pretty memorable, eh? On a personal silly level, this was the first show I did not X up for. Why do I remember this? I was just kind of bumming out hard. I had just finished a dreadful first semester of college and wasn’t really feeling it too well. But I remember the marker coming around and being all “eh” about it. I wrote about this in a fanzine at some point. We drove to this show with Ian Smith (OS 101) and I think Jenn West came along as well as our usual crew. We…

H20-Hands Tied-Skarhead-Fury Of V @ Stone Pony In Asbury Park NJ Winter 1998

This show happened in early 1998 I think. I remember Tim announcing it at the By The Grace Of God show in Yardley back in December. I don’t remember a lot about this show other than that h2o were horrible, BUT they covered “I Want More” by Suicidal Tendencies at the end of their set, which got the crowd really going. That is seriously all I remember about this show.

Hands Tied Page

This was the extra page I put out with my Hands Tied interview. I think it still looks pretty cool besides the dumb white background. The interview was done in September of 1997 and came out right after that in the fanzine I was doing at the time. That Shelter show was filmed for a Fox 5 feature on Straight Edge, which there seemed to be endless “special reports” about back at that time.

Parade Brigade Fanzine #1: The Reviews

We put out Parade Brigade Fanzine #1 in the spring of 1999. I have no idea what show we released it for, but I think it was at Manville Elks Lodge. Maybe. Amendment 18 Demo This band has members of a number of bands (Insted, Chorus Of Disapproval, Outspoken, etc) I had different expectations for this demo expecting more moshy stuff, but I got straight forward hardcore with interesting breakdowns. Lyrically, this isn’t as “militant,” as xChorusx was, but good all around especially “Eulogy.” I look forward to more. BW Bane Holding This Moment Equal Vision Records Bane sort of…

Civ-Hands Tied-Sweet Belly Freak Down at The Stone Pony In Asbury Park NJ Winter 1997

I’m not super sure when this show was exactly, but it was definitely when I was still in high school because I remember a ton of random, on the fringe, people going to this show to see Civ. I remember having mixed feelings about Civ because I did like some of the more hardcore songs on the record, but the rest was so stupid and shitty. That video they did too was awful and it was kind of embarrassing to have all these random townies think Civ was what hardcore was about. I remember a lot of skinheads were at…

Floorpunch-Ten Yard Fight-Hands Tied-Fastbreak-Uprise-Bladecrasher-Last Straw-9 Lives at Fieldsboro VFW in Bordentown NJ 1-4-97

My first show of 1997 was in Bordentown, NJ at the Fieldsboro VFW (which apparently doesn’t exist anymore?). When I began teaching at BCC in 2009, I noticed I drove near Bordentown every day on my commute and it always made me think of the shows I went to at this venue (Also, Vincenttown. Do the punks still slam there?). I missed the two other Floorpunch shows here (one with Rain On The Parade and Vision, and the other with Human Remains and Earth Crisis). I went to this show with a bunch of friends, two of which, John Piorkowski…

Mouthpiece-Earth Crisis–Floorpunch-Battery-Lots of Others @ Middlesex County College In Edison NJ 6-28-96

A lot has been said about this show and how it ended, but more on that in a bit… I went to this show with my friend Crystal, who sadly died in 2001. Her mother Elizabeth, who was by far the coolest parent in our crew (more on her in a bit too) drove us up to Edison, dropped us off, and went…somewhere? Her sister’s house? Maybe? A LOT of bands played this show. Middlesex shows were typical five to eight bands, and then a few more added on. I only vaguely remember most of them and spent a lot…
