Floorpunch-Fast Times-Parting Shot @ The Melody Bar In New Brunswick NJ 1-17-99

This show was right before Floorpunch went to Europe. Fast Times and Parting Shot opened this show, but not sure who else. Had to be others, right? No one seems to remember. Parting Shot were the dudes behind Impact Webzine (before it became a fanzine and then eventually Gordo did Double Cross with Tim) and Finish Line Fanzine. They did a pretty generic demo, but then a new recording that sounded a lot of Moondog and Beyond. Cool. Fast Times was Ali’s band. They played a LOT of shows back then. Pretty much got booked on anything they could it…

Ensign-Grey Area-Kid Dynamite-Kill Your Idols-All Chrome @ Manville Elks Lodge Manville NJ 4-2-99

We made sure to get to this show early for two reasons. First, this was the debut show for the first issue of Parade Brigade Fanzine. We sold a bunch during the show and handed a bunch to various bands for them to get rid of. Second, we had heard All Chrome was a new band from Massachusetts that sounded like Verbal Assault. They sort of did, but with some 90s emo influences. The CD of their records was on constant rotation in my room for a few years after this show. Kill Your Idols were becoming a really hyped…

Redemption 87-Ensign-Uprise-Rain On The Parade-In My Eyes-Bladecrasher @ New Providence American Legion Hall New Providence NJ 5-30-97

This might have been the first show I ever drove to, but I am not sure. Redemption 87 was one of the first of the “bringing it back” bands that emerged in the middle of the nineties. Their record suddenly popped up in the local record store, advertised as ex members of Token Entry and Unit Pride. Oh, really? Well the record was pretty good, although has not held up that well, and the hype around them was pretty massive. New Providence is at least an hour and a half from Manahawkin, probably more, and I think we took two…

Ensign-Floorpunch-Saves The Day-Rain On The Parade-Fastbreak-Follow Through-Kill Your Idols @ New Providence American Legion Hall New Providence NJ 11-14-97

This was the record release for Ensign’s first album. There was a major snow storm and some sleet in the area for this show. Of course, Justin and I forged ahead, almost got in an accident, and still managed to basically get to the show first besides a few random people. A few of these random people approached us while we sat on the back of my car. They looked kind of redneckish and said they loved Ensign, but also a bunch of tough guy bands. The one then called someone a fag and said that the bands they liked…

New Year’s Eve 1996 at 508 House In Toms River, NJ

We went to this show to celebrate the new year as we headed into 1996. Baxter played and probably a few other bands, but my memory is a bit hazy. All that booze! I kid. A lot of my friends crushed on Crystal. I *did*, certainly, but never really did much with it when we were in high school beyond a 12ish hour period where we talked our way out of it. We did kiss once too that previous summer, but neither of us ever brought it up again. She got all dolled up for this show and looked amazing. I…

By The Grace Of God-CR-Deadguy-Transmeggettti @ Manville Elks Lodge Manville NJ 1-18-97

The first thing I remember about this show was that it was FREEZING outside. A snow storm had come in a few days before the temperature dove down with it. Sitting in the back of a friend’s truck with no heat was a pretty brutal experience. What pissed me off though was he just called us a bunch of wimps. The same dude who fucking cried and made us listen to weak shit like Lifetime whenever a girl breathed near him. TransMegetti were a local emo band that one of the Tesi Brothers and Brian Strahele (also ex Hogans Heroes)…

Baxter-Lucky No. 13-Whatever-Franklin at 508 House in Toms River, NJ 6-25-95

I went to high school with Ian from Hogan’s Heroes/OS101/Friendly Fire’s younger brother Pete. He dropped out of school sometime in the fall of 1996, but he was one of the people who introduced me to straight edge. We hung around at the Smith house for most of this day. Their parents were pretty nice people who put up with a ton of us running in and out the house all the time. A few generations of hardcore kids bounced around in there. It sucks both of the Smith parents have passed away. Baxter was Ian’s side project. They were…

American Nightmare-Striking Distance-The Final Plan at The Kill Time Early 2002

the final plan from timefallsnear on Vimeo. I am pretty sure the date on that video is wrong. I think it is early 2002 because I am pretty sure this was the first show I went to after 9-11. I kind of ducked out for a bit after that because of some other shit that happened. Not going to shows for awhile, and dealing with other things in my life, made hardcore shows seem oddly detached. I felt this weird distance between me and everyone who was there. This was right about the time that I really began checking out…

Ignite-Hands Tied-Fastbreak-Rain On The Parade-9 Lives at Fieldsboro NJ 4-20-97

The above video is from the day before at The Down Under in New Brunswick, but I went to see the newly reunited (and minus see crappy songs) Agnostic Front with Madball, Crown of Thornz, and some others. Seasonal allergies had just hit that week, so I was pretty sick after going crazy (and getting in a fight where like seven TOTALLY TOUGH AND SCARY skinheads went after me for DARING to try to break up a fight. One of them was like THIS IS NOT YOUR CONCERN. Oh, why didn’t you tell me this was SKINHEAD BUSINESS? Carry on!)…
