A project I have worked on this year is creating a top 100 list, like the ones I did for the hardcore era, for the 1970s. You can find the list above.

Digger, Ten Foot Pole, Vision
My big memory of this show is Vision being really pissed at the venue for trying to cut their set short. Dave was pretty hot about it. This was a weird show too because a lot of the crowd didn’t really know Vision that well. I swear Full Speed Ahead opened this show maybe? I left after Vision and went to dinner with someone I’d taken a class with that spring. Ten Foot Pole has that band the guy from Scared Straight was in, but I am pretty sure he was out of the band by this time because he…

Against The Grain, False Justice, Heatseekers, Oi Scouts, The Disturbed, The Primatives, Three Against One, To Each His Own
So my big memory of this show was one of the bands covering local legends False Justice. When the mosh part in “Stick Together” hit, some rando started wailing on people, so I shoved him and he got in my face and then one of my friends threw the dude away from me. During this era I remember these kinds of scuffles happening a lot at local shows in Ocean County because someone would show up and think hardcore shows were just like Woodstock 99 or whatever.

Cut The Shit, Tear It Up, The Horror
I don’t remember a ton about this show other than Tear It Up doing a medley of Cro-Mags covers and Cut The Shit being really good. The Horror had members of Voorhees. I think a couple other bands played this show, but I have no idea.

Black Cross, Kodan Armada, Marathon, Nakotami Plaza, The Procedure
This is, as far as I know, the only show I ever went to on my birthday. I drove to it alone and spent most of the show hanging out outside with some friends before checking out Black Cross, who had members of Endpoint and some other Kentucky bands. They were kind of screamo meets more straight forward hardcore, I guess, but something I would never listen to now. I had a conversation with someone in this band that left me unimpressed too. Pretty long drive for only one band I only kind of liked.

E-Town Concrete, One King Down, Outlook, Rigid, Tied Down, Tonsul
That Bates Lodge venue in Red Bank did a ton of shows from like 95-97 both big and small. Tied Down, Tonsul, and Rigid played a bunch of those shows. I think Tonsul sounded like Deadguy/Rorschach kind of stuff? Outlook did a demo that, if I recall right, kind of had a melodic Turning Point vibe to it. We used to run into a member of that band on LBI in the summer from time to time. E-Town Concrete were totally not my thing at all, but they were pretty nice guys. Random metal dudes in my high school got…

Kill Your Idols, Tears Of Frustration, To Each His Own, Worthless
I don’t remember a lot about this one. We hung out outside of this show for a lot of it and basically only went in to watch 1-2 bands. Sorry.
