Cro-Mags, Most Precious Blood, Vision
I got to this show really late, but cannot remember why. When I got there, Vision’s set was almost done so I packed it in up front for the Cro-Mags. As you can see in the video, people were going off hard at this show. A lot of young and old dancing and diving. The Cro-Mags were on fire too and sounded so tight. This was the height of us going to see them every single time they played a gig. Love seeing Zusi, Swank, Brett Hardware, Joe Oz, etc packed in up front. It was so sick how they…

Harley's War
This show was at Froggers, which was a roller rink that did shows for a few years on and off. My big memory of this show is hanging out outside of it for a really long time. We actually left and got dinner somewhere and then came back again at one point. Harley’s War played a mix of their own songs and some Cro-Mags stuff too. It was disgustingly hot in Froggers that day. I remember bailing out about 3/4 of the way through the set to go cool off outside.

Insted, Kill Your Idols, Vision
I was never a huge Insted fan, but we still headed up to CBGB to see Vision and Kill Your Idols. Vision were really good at this show. They came out firing hard and played a great set. As you can see in the video I sat down on the stage for Insted’s set, but was then pretty surprised by how good they were. I don’t like any of their records really besides What We Believe, but they were good and I got into it after awhile. I still have an Insted sticker from this show on the desk in…

97a, Forthright, Full Speed Ahead, Lost Cause, SOV, To Each His Own
This was the record release show for 97a’s “It’s In Our Power” record. Rain On The Parade are on some flyers for this show, but they canceled. I don’t remember a lot about the openers and honestly Full Speed Ahead either. One of my big memories from this show is a few of my friends from college coming out and wrecking people during FSA and 97a. I interviewed 97a at this show along with my friend Carson. I had been wanting to sit down with them for a few years and it was cool to finally do so. I had…

Degenerics, Ensign, Purpose, Rain On The Parade, Reach The Sky, Tears Of Frustration, Worthless
This was yet another one of those shows where I worked all day and then raced to the show…I got there an hour late and it still had not even started! Tears Of Frustration got added to this show and opened it. I remember they covered a YDL song and the crowd was pretty awkward about it. The Degenerics, after a few seven inches, were starting to get really hot around this time. People were into them and they would always bust out a couple Bad Brains covers. No specific memories of Purpose, Worthless (another band that played a lot…

Bold, Breakdown, Citizens Arrest, No Contest, One Sided War, Out Cold, Wide Awake
Wide Awake did not play this show, but No Contest got added as they had two new records coming out. They were a great band from here in NJ. I do not remember anything particular about their set or Fanshen, although I swear I took pictures of them? I loaned out a lot of pictures back then and most never got back to me. One Sided War was a new band with Matt Warnke from Bold and Pat from Citizens Arrest. They sounded like later Bold, sort of, but I also thought they had a lot of influence from later…

Ensign, Fastbreak, Fit For Abuse, Purpose, Rain On The Parade, Skewbald
This show was mostly an average 1998 NJHC show except for the opener…who absolutely blew our minds… After a long day at work some friends met up with me at my house. I took a quick shower and we got on the road to Manville, which was like 80 minutes away or so. The night before I had a conversation with a friend who said to make we got to the show on time because the opener was incredible. Fit For Abuse absolutely blew our minds. Not too many bands were more influenced by the 82 style, yet, at the…

Boiling Point Fanzine, Down In Flames, Half Off, Hardware Fanzine, Mouthpiece, Rain On The Parade, Striking Distance, Teamwork Records, Time Flies
This was a long day! In the fall of 2000 I had three classes in the early afternoon up in Toms River: Gender Studies at 1200, Statistics at 1300, and then Biology at 1400. We had lab on Friday so my partner and I hurried through our lab stuff and I drove back down to Manahawkin to pick everyone up for the show. We then drove ALL the way up to Wayne, which is at least a two hour drive. I remember it was freezing cold and occasionally snowing as we drove up to the show. In the rush to…

Bound, Cro-Mags, Fast Times, Fastbreak, Floorpunch, Full Speed Ahead, In My Eyes, Life's Blood, Raw Deal, Reach The Sky
Rain On The Parade did not play this show. They had played their “final” show, before getting back together the next summer, a few weeks before. This was the record release show for the Floorpunch LP. The record had come out maybe a month before and we had been listening to it non-stop. I went on a date the night before (with someone who ended up being best friends with the sister of a friend of ours) and could not sit still during the date because I was so excited for the gig. I worked all morning and when I…

A.D.D., Blind Society, False Justice, Heatseekers, OS101
Yet another 1998 or 1999? Who knows! This show was on a Friday night because I remember working and then going up to the show. ADD was an all lady band who played pretty cool 1982 style hardcore. They had a demo I think? I remember seeing Jessica and Sarah around a lot at shows. Heatseekers was a local skinhead band with some kids from the generation after mine in Manahawkin. They did a False Justice cover and when the mosh part hit everyone went off. Some dude started hitting people and I shoved him. Suddenly one of the members…
