Dan O'Mahoney, Fast Times, Floorpunch, Lana Gillis, Parade Brigade Fanzine, Parting Shot
This interview was done in January of 1999 for Parade Brigade #1. Originally, John and I were going to do an interview with Porter but that fell through so we sat down with Bill and later Zev and Kingshot at the Melody Bar in New Brunswick NJ after their show with Fast Times, Parting Shot, and some others. *** Parade Brigade Staff in Bold Bill-OK so who is in the band (why did I ask this?) Bill Punch-You know that, you can write it down. *** Bill-What happened with Lana’s show in South Carolina? Bill Punch-We canceled it. We canceled…

Not Normal was a fanzine I started in 2002 but never really got it off the ground. I did like the idea of combining more personal writing (2002 was a particularly ugly time in my life for a variety of reasons) with hardcore content, but a second issue did not really go anywhere. I am happy still with most of what is here. It is definitely a time capsule of that time in my life. Not Normal #1 would have probably featured The Snobs and a reprinted Bikini Kill interview. The Snobs broke up before I could interview them and…

Cut The Shit, Forward To Death, Full Speed Ahead, Husker Du, Loud Fast Rules, Newz U Can Uze, Soul Asylum, Splitting Headache, Tear It Up, The Replacements
A few news items: Sadly, Karl Mueller, the bassist for the band Soul Asylum, died recently. What does this have to do with hardcore you ask? Well, Karl was in the band Loud Fast Rules; who conveniently enough Something I Learned Today, one of my favorite blogs, just blogged about. Soul Asylum also came out of the same scene that gave us bands like Husker Du and The Replacements. I was very impressed by Splitting Headache’s set this weekend. Featuring ex-members of Full Speed Ahead, Tear It Up, Forward To Death, and Cut The Shit, Splitting Headache plays hardcore not…

Bad Brains, Burn, Lion Of Judah
Lion of Judah 2005 Demo http://howsyouredge.com/loj/ I have really mixed feelings about this demo. On one hand, musically Lion of Judah are influenced by two of my favorite bands-The Bad Brains and Burn. On the other hand, while those bands are influences for Lion of Judah, I do not think they fully embrace them on this demo and end up sounding like a mundane, straightforward, hardcore band at the end of the day. The songs are interesting and stay under the three-minute mark, but nothing really grabs me. I see potential here though; I think another recording may bring out…

Abusive Action, Floorpunch, In My Eyes, The Straight Edge
Abusive Action Demo The Abusive Action demo came highly recommended to me by a couple of friends. This demo is excellent “97” style hardcore in the vein of bands like Floorpunch and In My Eyes. Actually, I would have to say it is more like In My Eyes if anything. Fast, to the point, straight edge hardcore clocking in at less than ten minutes. The only thing that is annoying is the same old bland straight edge lyrics; but for the music, it fits. Definitely check this one out. Also, look into Abusive Action at their label, Crucial Response’s, website.…

I did this one with Fred Hammer over email sometime in the late 90’s. Originally, this was for some issue of the one pager fanzine I did at the time Broken Behind This Wall. *** How long have you been doing It’s Alive? I have been doing It’s Alive Fanzine for about eleven years. My first few issues didn’t have much in the way of content, they were only a few pages. As time went on I started interviewing bands I enjoyed: Scared Straight, Born Against, Outspoken, Gray Matter, No For An Answer, Half Off, Youth of Today, In My…

This interview was done in late 1996 for my old fanzine What Was Said. I have always been rather fond of this interview. I was interviewing Hardware! That was a huge deal to me because after having read a few issues of Hardware, these guys were legendary to me. They covered the stuff I loved the most (NYHC) and introduced me to so many cool bands like Devoid of Faith, Heroin, Mainstrike, etc. I think I first checked out Raw Power and other Italian bands after reading reviews in Hardware. If Hardware said a band was good, I had money…

Annihilation Time, Bl'ast!, Black Flag, Black Sabbath, Fields Of Fire, Fuck Rock Fanzine, In Control, Stand Your Ground
In 2002 my friend Anthony and I got together to start working on a fanzine called Fuck Rock. Fuck Rock never really got off the ground, but we did a bunch of interviews for it. Anthony interviewed Annihilation Time in November of 02. * 1. Who’s in Annihilation Time, ages, any previous bands? Chris-Bass (Fields Of Fire, Stand Your Ground), Jamie-Guitar (Fields Of Fire), Tony-Drums (In Control, Stand Your Ground), Graham-Guitar (Holier Than Thou?, Fields Of Fire, In Control), Fred-Vocals (Stand Your Ground). * 2. When did you guys start playing together? Our first show was in September of 2001.…
