Underdog
Ugh, why did Underdog play this shithole instead of Asbury Lanes? Who knows. Actually, I think I do know! We went up to this one with a crew of friends and Underdog were good, although really hurt by bouncers and a huge barricade. Why do bands that can draw a lot of people accept this bullshit? Or do they care? Underdog were good and we went home to meet up at a friend’s house to hang out. Everyone got pretty drunk and I spent a lot of time sitting outside on the phone with my girlfriend.

Cold World, Get Real, My Turn To Win, Underdog
I showed up to this show right around when Get Real were wrapping up their set, so I just hung out in the back with some friends after their set and during Cold World’s set. Underdog were kind of shitty at this show I remember. A lot of older dudes were there, drunk, and kind of dancing like assholes. This is the same bullshit that wrecks some Vision shows too. You are so cool to have to dance hard around a bunch of kids half your age. Very courageous, especially after a few beers. Something really funny happened at this…

Floorpunch, Killing Time, Raw Deal, This Is Hardcore, Underdog
Killing Time (Full Set) from hate5six on Vimeo. The last time I saw Killing Time, they played right after a newly reunited Underdog to a half empty crowd. I went inside to check them out at This Is Hardcore and was pleasantly surprised to see them sticking to their good songs from the Raw Deal demo (the best ever?) and their Brightside LP, which I do not *love*. I hung out in the back and enjoyed their set, tempted to mosh after seeing a few friends bust it for New Release. I held to my “save it for Floorpunch” decree from earlier…

Nomos Demo Great 82 style hardcore from this New York band. There are a lot of modern influences on this band’s demo including Cold Sweat, The Snobs, and other, hey, early 00 bands. I would like to hear more. Our Side Demo Really raw, late eighties, influenced hardcore in the vein of Release, Youth Of Today, and Four Walls Falling. With a better recording, I sense this band could be pretty good. I want to hear more. Pigsticker Demo I really like this demo. Pigsticker reminds me a cross between Circle Jerks and Necros with sloppy, raw, production values that sounds pretty authentic to the early eighties…

This is the interview I did with Rain On The Parade in April of 1997. Originally in What Was Said Fanzine. 1. Okay, who is in the band and all that crap? My name is Ronnie and I sing. DII plays one guitar. Justin plays the other. Matt jumps around with his bass. Chris just joined the band. He plays drums. 2. Have you guys gotten any shit for the lyrics to Body Bag? You know, with the way all this metal slop has taken over hardcore in the past few years, you’d think we’d catch some slack for writing…

Weapon X was a band who only played one show at the Manville Elks Lodge on August 9th 1997. Members of Weapon X have also been in Ensign, Vision, The Purpose, Black Turns Green, Kurbjaw, A Death In The Family, and some others. I remember the week before Floorpunch, Vision, and 25 Ta Life played the same venue. In fact, Manville would be a consistent venue for a few years after this. Sometimes I really miss the place. It was easy to get to (go around the circle, go up six lights, make a left!), the people who ran it seemed to be really cool, and I always knew no matter what show I…

Big congrats to Manahawkin hardcore diva Leslie Adams and her store Fate winning a bunch of awards in local newspaper voting. Check out this interview with the newest band from members of Arms Reach, Life Love Regret . Everything Went Black has a great post up right now about a favorite band of mine, The Fearless Iranians From Hell. Bob Mould is currently blogging about his latest tour. I have heard that not only will he be playing songs from his solo records and from Sugar records, but also some Husker Du songs as well. I would love to see…

We did this interview at Princeton Arts Council in May of 1998. I believe this show was with Speak 714, Rain On The Parade, and Automatic. I can’t really tell you about what they are doing these days, but at the time we all really liked Ensign. A lot of my memories of that era have been soured over the years, but we used to have a lot of fun whenever Ensign played. Their first 7” has held up pretty well over the years. Justin and I handled most of the questions. When I went to type this up I…
