Nomos Demo Great 82 style hardcore from this New York band. There are a lot of modern influences on this band’s demo including Cold Sweat, The Snobs, and other, hey, early 00 bands. I would like to hear more. Our Side Demo Really raw, late eighties, influenced hardcore in the vein of Release, Youth Of Today, and Four Walls Falling. With a better recording, I sense this band could be pretty good. I want to hear more. Pigsticker Demo I really like this demo. Pigsticker reminds me a cross between Circle Jerks and Necros with sloppy, raw, production values that sounds pretty authentic to the early eighties…

A 1965 performance of Naima by John Coltrane. Antidote Thou Shalt Not Kill 7″ Bridge 9 Records Along with Infest, when I got into hardcore there wasn’t another band talked about in such mysterious and hushed tones as Antidote. The record was expensive, but the music was great. There was a bootleg 12″ of it with other early NYC eps (Cause For Alarm, The Abused and either The Mob or Urban Waste), but for most people, this was a record to get on tape, which I had a really nice dub from a virtually mint copy in 1997. Obviously,…

Obliteration This Is Tomorrow 7″ Painkiller Records Wow! Members of Knife Fight and Mind Eraser come together to play heavy crusty hardcore. Somewhere between Crucifix, Cro-Mags, Totalitar, and Nausea, this six song ep is one of the best records of the past few years. More please!

Cro-Mags, Crow, Discharge, Krishna, Sorry State Records
Crow Vertigo b/w Occupied Japan 7″ Sorry State Records Unlike so many American bands that get poppier, trendy, or keep putting out the same record over and over, Crow continue to impress me as their sound evolves over the past twenty plus years. Always influenced by Discharge, their sound is now a heavy, metallic, assault. I am reminded of a rawer Best Wishes era Cro-Mags (minus love songs to Krishna). Hopefully Crow will continue to record records like this one.

Cro-Mags, Mightier Than Sword Records
Cro-Mags Age of Quarrel Reissue LP Mightier Than Sword Records Do I really need to review this? I’m sure you know that the staff of Signifying Nothing unite about this record. This reissue does a decent remixing job that sounds a lot better than the CD reissue which was done in the nineties. Tacked on at the end are the three demo tracks which have been floating around the past few years. If you’re looking to upgrade the sound of your Age of Quarrel album check this out.

Cro-Mags, Hands Tied, Livewire Records, Ressurection, Rest In Pieces, Skull Crusher, The Icemen
Skull Crusher Blinded By Illusion LP Livewire Records Members of Hands Tied and Ressurection heading in a more metal direction. These guys are obviously going for Best Wishes era Cro-Mags, later Rest in Pieces, or The Icemen, but this record hasn’t held my interest that much. The intent is there, for sure, but it doesn’t really grab me. You’ll have to decide on this one for yourself.
