Splitting Headache
Splitting Headache S/T EP Collapse Records Splitting Headache are a great new band from the shore featuring members of Tear It Up and Full Speed Ahead. If you like those bands, you will love Splitting Headache as this is a continuation of what was previously established in those bands. I especially dig the multiple lifted Suicidal Tendencies riffs in School Of Life Drop Out. Once these guys have another record out I think people are really going to take note because having heard some newer material I have to say it is an even stronger statement than this record. I…

Report Suspicious Activities
Report Suspicious Activities S/T CD Alternative Tentacles Records I was pretty curious about this record before I heard it. This band is the new project for members of Jawbox and Articles of Faith. Cool combo. What you get however is a mixed bag of a record that ultimately is a bit of a letdown. Some of the songs on here generally are really good. They are heavy, sometimes melodic, and a little sludgy. However, a lot of them are either about three minutes too long or get bogged down in a lot of attempting to experiment in the music. There…

Frank Castle Gonna Break Your Neck!
Frank Castle Gonna Break Your Neck! Demo I coulda swore these guys were from England circa 1987 and not Russia circa 2006. Frank Castle… are a great band from Russia who play fast hardcore ala Ripcord, Heresy, SSD, Voorhees, Larm, etc. I really hear a lot of Larm when I listen to this. The songs are hyper fast and to the point. And with song titles like Fuck Your Flag, Everybody Is A Cop, and Destroy The Hippie Culture you can definitely tell where these guys stand. I dig the anti-nazi stance they take on their website also. I hope…

Soul Swallower-Self Titled
Soul Swallower S/T EP Collapse Records Holy shit! Over the summer I kept hearing about a project members of, amongst others, Mind Eraser had going called Soul Swallower. A friend who saw them live described them as “Mind Eraser, only better.” With these very high expectations I knew I had to hear this. Thankfully our friend Bob Shedd put this out on Collapse. Soul Swallower are similar to Mind Eraser but have a bit more of an influence from bands like Integrity, Citizens Arrest, and No Comment. To the layman, I’m sure both bands will sound similar, but there is…
