I spent a lot of this show, which a ton of other bands played at, hanging out with a few friends from the old days I do not get to see all that often. Protestor were really good and covered a Brotherhood song. Maximum Penalty played a bunch of demo songs, which are great. MP were the first band I ever moshed for back in the old days. Burn has a bunch of new songs that are not too hot these days. I watched the last few songs, but was not into it.
All of this was just a prelude to Youth of Today. After catching up with some other friends, I packed it up front and figured I would stay there for their set. They came out absolutely on fire and tore into “Flame Still Burns,” which segued into “Make A Change,” which prompted me to dive out into the crowd and head for the pit, of which two different ones emerged. They played pretty much everything you would want to hear, and Ray had good stuff to say between songs. They have been hit or miss live over the years, but they were ferocious on this day.
Now and forever, Youth of Today will be the most important band. I got to talk to Ray for a minute afterward, and thank him for what a huge influence they have been on me.
