June 18th 2005 Get Real-Splitting Headache-Little Rascals

June 18th 2005 Little Rascals–Splitting Headache–Get Real–Righteous Jams At the last minute, I believe Righteous Jams canceled this show. The show went on however. After going to get food we caught the tail end of whoever the opening band was. I believe they were from Brick, but I’m not entirely sure. At the end of their set they busted out a cover of Floorpunch’s Not For Me. Cool. The Little Rascals were, albeit a bit sloppy, really good again. They opened with a Bad Brains cover and proceeded to play songs off of their seven inch and a couple newer…

Ice Pick-Gold Rush

Icepick Gold Rush CD Not Just Words Records No, not the Icepick with members of Crown of Thornz + Hatebreed. This is the European one. The easy comparison here would be to Germany’s True Blue, who share Icepick’s obvious love of The Cro-Mags, Leeway, and Bad Brains. I definitely prefer True Blue, but this Icepick CD holds up well. Much of it reminds me of Best Wishes era Cro-Mags. Fast, slightly metallic, and to the point. There are no sick mosh parts like Death Camps, but nonetheless this is very good. Judge for yourself by checking out an mp3 on…

Lion Of Judah-Universal Peace

Lion Of Judah Universal Peace CD Youngblood Records I have had mixed feelings about all of Lion Of Judah’s previous records. I enjoyed their performance in a live setting, but on record they just haven’t really been able to move me. A lot of people say LOJ sound like Burn, but I don’t hear it at all. I do hear a variety of influences: Early Fugazi, I Against I era Bad Brains, and honestly I keep thinking of the band Heroin while listening to this. This is pretty good I guess. A few songs drift into “too much rock” for…

Society System DeControl

We reprinted this one in Parade Brigade #2. Originally in Touch & Go Fanzine. SS Decontrol come on strong…psychically, mentally, emotionally,…there is nothing halfway about them…their live attack is relentless and can be imposing to the uninitiated…their message is indelibly etched on every scrap of music…they have been branded everything from Neo-Nazis to mindless bullies…protagonists of a “right wing straight edge” philosophy…they seem to feed on the myths, the stereotypes…all the while strengthening the bond that exists between crowd and band…yes as an outsider to the Boston scene this will appear as somewhat conjecture…but I feel strongly that their message…

Restless Youth-State Of Confusion

Restless Youth State of Confusion 7” Painkiller Records When I first heard about Restless Youth, someone told me they sounded like The Bad Brains. It even says it on the Painkiller website. Cooch is one of the people whose taste I trust the most, but I thought to myself “yeah, right, heard that one before.” Well folks Restless Youth do in fact sound like The Bad Brains! These six songs fit somewhere in between Roir and Rock For Light, moving at hyper speed. This is one of the most impressive records I have heard in awhile; I cannot wait to…

Parade Brigade #2 Intro Bust

These are our personal pages from Parade Brigade #2. Again, mine is very brief. #2 All I have to say is it’s good to be back! It has been a really long time between issues, shit happens, things just get in the way. In the future we will hopefully be doing this more often. Things have been hectic and priorities change. I can no longer spend 24/7 on hardcore even though I somehow get sucked into doing it sometimes. Hardcore is in my blood, this is the kind of thing which will keep me involved in the scene. I love…

Parade Brigade #1

This is our personal pages from Parade Brigade #1. Nothing much to say here. The Spazz interview was actually in #1 (but the H-Street interview we mention later on wasn’t, huh?). The Kill Your Idols, Speak 714, Purpose, and Nerve Agents interviews are still unreleased to this day. We never got around to interviewing In My Eyes. Parade Brigade #1 Well, well, a new zine. John and I have combined forces and are now doing a zine together. ITBOAE is dead; not that anyone gives a fuck, but hey why not mention it? I figure fuck, I am the negative…

Not Normal Fanzine

Not Normal was a fanzine I started in 2002 but never really got it off the ground. I did like the idea of combining more personal writing (2002 was a particularly ugly time in my life for a variety of reasons) with hardcore content, but a second issue did not really go anywhere. I am happy still with most of what is here. It is definitely a time capsule of that time in my life. Not Normal #1 would have probably featured The Snobs and a reprinted Bikini Kill interview. The Snobs broke up before I could interview them and…
