Iron Boots-Easy Green

Iron Boots Easy Green 7” Grave Mistake Records Oh man, if you thought the Iron Boots demo plagiarized Warzone, it only gets worse here. The first song, War Dogs, is pretty much note for note Fighting For Our Country. I think there needs to be some sort of MLA citation format for when bands do this. The rest of the songs on this 7” are decent to above average 1988 NYHC style in the vein of the aforementioned Warzone. While I was pretty into the demo, even though I chuckle at some of the ridiculously blatant Warzone rip-off parts, this…

Restless Youth-State Of Confusion

Restless Youth State of Confusion 7” Painkiller Records When I first heard about Restless Youth, someone told me they sounded like The Bad Brains. It even says it on the Painkiller website. Cooch is one of the people whose taste I trust the most, but I thought to myself “yeah, right, heard that one before.” Well folks Restless Youth do in fact sound like The Bad Brains! These six songs fit somewhere in between Roir and Rock For Light, moving at hyper speed. This is one of the most impressive records I have heard in awhile; I cannot wait to…

Newz U Can Uze

Big congrats to Manahawkin hardcore diva Leslie Adams and her store Fate winning a bunch of awards in local newspaper voting. Check out this interview with the newest band from members of Arms Reach, Life Love Regret . Everything Went Black has a great post up right now about a favorite band of mine, The Fearless Iranians From Hell. Bob Mould is currently blogging about his latest tour. I have heard that not only will he be playing songs from his solo records and from Sugar records, but also some Husker Du songs as well. I would love to see…

Ten Yard Fight

I did this one with John Lacroix in the fall of 1996. This was while Anthony was still around; in fact, I believe it may have been a week or two after the Hardcore Pride 7” came out. Originally in What Was Said #1 *** Who is in the band, and what do they play? Wrench-Vocals John-Bass Chris-Guitar Anthony-Guitar Ryan-Drums *** What do you have out and coming out? We did a demo, which we made 700 of and now it’s being repressed on vinyl by SOA Records. We did a 7” called Hardcore Pride on Big Wheel which will…

Signal Lost-Children Of The Wasteland

Signal Lost Children Of The Wasteland LP Prank Records Where have I been? I just finally heard this band and I am very impressed. Signal Lost come from Texass and play awesome hardcore in the vein of California bands like Agent Orange and The Adolescents. The 13 songs here are driving and powerful with excellent lyrics, especially on Children Of The Wasteland and Innocent. I can guarantee this will be on my end of the year “best of” list. The Evens

The Evens S/T LP Dischord Records This is Ian Mackaye (you know who he is) and Amy Farina (ex Fire Party)’s new band. The Evens take the quieter, more recent Fugazi songs in a new direction that contains only an acoustic guitar and drums. The songs on this record are stripped down and quiet. This does not mean they are not powerful though; these songs are beautifully written and some of both members’ finest work. I am very interested in how they are playing different spaces and venues than Fugazi, Fire Party, or any of their former bands have. It…

By The Grace Of God

This interview was done with Tommy in 1998 by this dude Mike McKenna who contributed some content to the fanzines I was doing around that time. * What’s going on in Louisville? Right now Louisville is doing just fine. We are going through a stage right now where a lot of great new hardcore, punk, and indie rock bands are coming out of the woodwork. Some great new bands you should check out are: Five Times Fast Flight 19 The Aasee Lake Automatic Tri-tet Half Seas Over The Dangers Espionage …just to name a few. The only thing that kind…

Damage II

Anthony did this one for Fuck Rock Fanzine. I didn’t even know this interview existed until he sent it to me a few months ago. Actually, I don’t think I’ve even heard Damage II before. I know I saw the first Damage once and they had a bunch of songs with Simpsons themed names which was pretty cool. Thanks again for taking time out to do the interview. How are things going with Damage II? Are the upcoming west coast dates coming together? Damage II is going real well, things are moving a little slow, but we’re still getting somewhere.…
