I taped this show, but I have no idea what happened to the tape. I think I sent it to a few of the bands, so the recording is out there somewhere…
We went to this for the almighty Voorhees, but some of the best east coast bands of the era came together for this one.
I was never a huge fan of Kill Your Idol’s recordings besides their first 12”, but they were always really good live and played New Jersey a lot. Same with Tear It Up: Those are records I do not put on often, but I always enjoyed seeing them live. Last In Line and Cops & Robbers from Massachusetts came down and were great. LiL are one of the most underrated bands of that era. I really liked a lot of those bands from Western Mass, but they never got the acclaim that the Boston bands did…
Did Kill The Man Who Questions cover Sick of it All at this show?
Voorhees were great, but it was a real bummer how few people were into them. They came along a little too early to really catch the mid-nineties hardcore revival, and their sound evolved by the time the thrash fad happened. That CD with like 70 songs on it was on constant rotation for me back then.
My other big memory of this show was a few punks approaching me about how my progress getting my first teaching gig was going along. After 9-11, I did my subbing certification (the teacher lost three brothers in one of the towers and immediately regretted telling us I think as people in the class got really, really, weird and reactionary around her) classes and then was told it would be months before I could be approved because of all the security issues. At one point, I heard it could be the next school year even. I ended up getting approved in January and did that for the next eight years until I finished graduate school.
