Matt Leveton Benefit 1999

The first ever benefit for Matt Leveton was in January 1999. Matt used to book shows at Manville and got seriously hurt in a car crash. These shows were a really big deal at the time and a nice showing of what can happen when the hardcore scene comes together for something good. The first day was highlighted by a reunion show for Strength 691. I remember seeing a lot of people who I had not seen in a few years, which is an odd feeling when you are 19, and hung around catching up with a lot of people.…

Degenerics-Stormshadow-Try Fail Try-Fanshen In New Brunswick NJ 3-7-98

My biggest memory of this show is talking to Degenerics about doing an interview for what would eventually be the first issue of Parade Brigade Fanzine about a year later. I would put out another fanzine that summer, but I was already thinking ahead of doing a hard reset. Degenerics were a great band that gets overlooked a lot. I am sure I watched Stormshadow because I was friendly with members of the band, but I don’t remember anything about Try Fail Try or Fanshen.

Stormshadow-You & I-Automaton-Worthless-Fanshen-The Degenerics-Automaton @ Masonic Temple Metuchen NJ 11-29-97

I went to this show with my friend Rebecca. After meeting up with her, we headed up to this show, which was at a creepy Mason hall. Rebecca and I used to argue a lot in the car. She was super PC and pretty, uh, “open minded” about her hardcore, so it led to some amusing arguments. Looking back, I took that stuff way too seriously. I have not talked to her in a long time. Opening this show was Automaton, which had Alex Soudah (ex 97a) and my friend Jason Scheller, who I would meet officially a year or…

Judas Iscariot-You & I-The State Secedes-Stormshadow-Hope Delusion @ Masonic Temple In Metuchen, NJ 1-31-98

This was obviously a weird show, but I went to this show to talk to The Judas Iscariot about an interview. I really liked them and hoped they would be into it. I worked all day and then drove up to Metuchen, which is about an hour and maybe ten or fifteen from Manahawkin. School work? Nah. Driving on a few hours sleep? Of course! I got some odd reactions from some people who were surprised I was at this show. I remember I hung out with Paul Hanily for awhile. Hope Delusion used to be called Unanswered, who did…

Parade Brigade Fanzine #1: The Reviews

We put out Parade Brigade Fanzine #1 in the spring of 1999. I have no idea what show we released it for, but I think it was at Manville Elks Lodge. Maybe. Amendment 18 Demo This band has members of a number of bands (Insted, Chorus Of Disapproval, Outspoken, etc) I had different expectations for this demo expecting more moshy stuff, but I got straight forward hardcore with interesting breakdowns. Lyrically, this isn’t as “militant,” as xChorusx was, but good all around especially “Eulogy.” I look forward to more. BW Bane Holding This Moment Equal Vision Records Bane sort of…
