Pusmort Mixtape

After last year’s popular Pushead Top 100 Of The Eighties podcasts, I thought it would be cool to do one more for Pushead’s label Pusmort. I want to do more of these in the future for labels. Signifying Nothing Top 100 Of The Nineties

Four years late, here is the final list.  One thing I’ve noticed as I put this together is that there is a great lack of compilations on this list.  A lot of the decent compilations in the nineties have great songs, but also terrible ones.  I still feel like I am missing something obvious… 1.6 Band, Self Titled LP, USA, 1992 Acme, Self Titled 7″, Belgium, 1994 All Chrome, Flounders Flyers College & Canada LP, USA, 1999 Arms Reach, Self Titled 7″, Australia, 1998 Assuck, State To State 7″, USA, 1993 Aus-Rotten, Fuck Nazi Sympathy, USA, 1994 Bastard, Wind Of…

Siege-Drop Dead

Siege Drop Dead Reissue Deep Six Records This is a reissue of this highly influental band’s recorded output. Siege played brutal hardcore that, at the time, had only been seen in bands like Void and Negative Approach. The bands influenced by Siege could go on forever: Infest, Napalm Death, Ripcord, Septic Death, Crossed Out, and so on. The reissue combines their demo (perhaps the best ever? Maybe. Raw Power & Raw Deal may have something to say about that.), their contributions to the Cleanse The Bacteria compilation plus two unreleased songs that I have heard live versions of before but…

Top 100 Of The Eighties: Deep Wound S/T

Deep Wound Self Titled 7” Radiobeat Records 1983 An absolute classic record from western Massachusetts. Deep Wound emulate contemporaries Siege and Void for insanity and intensity while also being pretty straight forward. Some songs, especially In My Room, have an almost youth crew feeling to them. Like mixing Void with Youth of Today. Sounds good to me. There is also a demo from these guys. That piece of shit bootleg label Lost and Found did a CD for these guys years ago that had both collected on it. There is also a four way split on that label with Siege,…

Top 100 Of The Nineties: Citizen’s Arrest-A Light In The Darkness

Citizens Arrest A Light In The Darkness 7” Wardance Records 1990 Citizens Arrest, while other New York bands were playing youth crew or noodling on guitar solos as their mullets got bigger, were playing raging hardcore in the early nineties. A Light In The Darkness is brutal; a great mix of Siege, Septic Death, and all things Italian and Scandinavian. This is an essential seven inch, one of the best ever. Citizens Arrest were also on a bunch of compilations and have a great WNYU set. Their LP Colossus, while not as good as the seven inch, is also very…

Hardware Fanzine

This interview was done in late 1996 for my old fanzine What Was Said. I have always been rather fond of this interview. I was interviewing Hardware! That was a huge deal to me because after having read a few issues of Hardware, these guys were legendary to me. They covered the stuff I loved the most (NYHC) and introduced me to so many cool bands like Devoid of Faith, Heroin, Mainstrike, etc. I think I first checked out Raw Power and other Italian bands after reading reviews in Hardware. If Hardware said a band was good, I had money…
