Ink & Dagger-Bluetip-Northern Mistep @ TLA Philadelphia PA 8-28-98

This show was super frustrating. Northern Mistep were supposed to be, as the flyer says, ex Swiz and No Escape but I am pretty sure they did not play the show. A few bands played before Bluetip, but I have no idea who they were and just hung out in the crowd. Bluetip did have members of Swiz, but sounded like pretty bland Quicksand style stuff. Every few years I revisit their records and still do not dig them. I did own a shirt for awhile, which I guess I bought at this show, because I have seen pictures of…

In The Blink Of An Eye Fanzine #2: The Reviews

These were the reviews from In The Blink Of An Eye Fanzine #2 (#1 was a brief one pager that a few of these reviews appeared in originally). After a few issues of What Was Said, I switched names and tried pretty unsuccessfully to reboot the fanzine. A lot of the same problems that plagued WWS were all over this one too. This came out in the summer of 1998. I am thinking late in the month of August perhaps? I did not do another fanzine for about eight months before the first issue of Parade Brigade Fanzine came together.…

Summer Reviews

Things have been slow around here lately. Some of it is lack of motivation, a lot of that stems from a decent downswing in readers/listeners, but also in content. I have not had a lot to say lately for some reasons that, maybe, I will write about sometime. *** Real Cops Demo Excellent NJHC that reminds me of bands like Full Speed Ahead and Tear It Up (who members of this band were in). I see a lot of potential here. *** Sucked Dry Demo Wow, another band that sounds like Cold Sweat is a big influence on them. Obviously, other bands like Crossed Out and Rorschach are also big influences. I…

Signifying Nothing Top 100 Of The Nineties

Four years late, here is the final list.  One thing I’ve noticed as I put this together is that there is a great lack of compilations on this list.  A lot of the decent compilations in the nineties have great songs, but also terrible ones.  I still feel like I am missing something obvious… 1.6 Band, Self Titled LP, USA, 1992 Acme, Self Titled 7″, Belgium, 1994 All Chrome, Flounders Flyers College & Canada LP, USA, 1999 Arms Reach, Self Titled 7″, Australia, 1998 Assuck, State To State 7″, USA, 1993 Aus-Rotten, Fuck Nazi Sympathy, USA, 1994 Bastard, Wind Of…

Absolution Reunion

For the first time in a very long time I drove up to this show with my friend John. We hit a ton of rain on the way up but, thankfully, by the time we got to New York City it was gone besides some lightning. John and I caught up on what each other was up to and laughed at the antics of the world around us. On the way up we listened to Dave K’s 1988-1990 NYHC mix. Upon arriving in Hoboken and trying to find a parking spot for probably around twenty to thirty minutes I quickly…

Mental/Mind Eraser/Get Real/Robot Whales/Little Rascals

Mental/Mind Eraser/Get Real/Robot Whales/Little Rascals May 6th 2005 Brick NJ Dave Flynn and I headed up to Brick for this one. We almost bailed upon finding out that Mind Eraser had canceled, but I am glad we still made the trip. Since it was just the two of us, we took my truck to its first hardcore show in a few years. At this point Dave usually drives so it was actually somewhat cool to drive for once. After dealing with the pouring rain, some crappy directions, and a trip to the mighty Santosa’s for vegan Chinese food, we finally…

Robot Whales-Vehicle

Robot Whales Vehicle LP Collapse Records Last year’s sleeper hit on the Revelation compilation returns with a new LP filled with mid 90’s style hardcore. Like I said last year, these guys sound like a breath of fresh air right now. If you like stuff like Quicksand, Lincoln, Burn, Helmet, and bands like that you will love this. Bonus points for covering Electric Funeral live. I’ve been spinning this one a lot lately. Check this and the other great records on Collapse Records out. Members of this band were also recently in Get Real.

Parade Brigade #2 Intro Bust

These are our personal pages from Parade Brigade #2. Again, mine is very brief. #2 All I have to say is it’s good to be back! It has been a really long time between issues, shit happens, things just get in the way. In the future we will hopefully be doing this more often. Things have been hectic and priorities change. I can no longer spend 24/7 on hardcore even though I somehow get sucked into doing it sometimes. Hardcore is in my blood, this is the kind of thing which will keep me involved in the scene. I love…

Parade Brigade #1

This is our personal pages from Parade Brigade #1. Nothing much to say here. The Spazz interview was actually in #1 (but the H-Street interview we mention later on wasn’t, huh?). The Kill Your Idols, Speak 714, Purpose, and Nerve Agents interviews are still unreleased to this day. We never got around to interviewing In My Eyes. Parade Brigade #1 Well, well, a new zine. John and I have combined forces and are now doing a zine together. ITBOAE is dead; not that anyone gives a fuck, but hey why not mention it? I figure fuck, I am the negative…
