Obliteration This Is Tomorrow 7″ Painkiller Records Wow! Members of Knife Fight and Mind Eraser come together to play heavy crusty hardcore. Somewhere between Crucifix, Cro-Mags, Totalitar, and Nausea, this six song ep is one of the best records of the past few years. More please!

Clean Plate Records, Crow, Discharge, Eyehategod, Mind Eraser
Mind Eraser Conscious/Unconscious LP Clean Plate Records Mind Eraser continue to progress with this two song LP. Each song hits about 10 minutes in length, which some fast parts and then a lot of sludgey, ugly, slowdowns. Combined with their previous influences I am hearing a lot more of both Discharge and Eyehategod in their sound. Some elements of more metallic Japanese bands like Crow can also be heard. It looks like this record is out of print currently.

Discharge, Knife Fight, Mind Eraser, Misery, Nausea, Obliteration
Obliteration Self Titled 7” Members of Knife Fight and Mind Eraser combine for fast D-Beat hardcore influenced by bands like Nausea, Misery, and Discharge. Noisy, ugly, hardcore which really stands out from most of the boring bands who play this style. Highly recommended.

I think, at this point, the podcast is going to be canceled, or, at least, released in a different form than weekly (I’m thinking maybe a longer, monthly, show? Man, I can’t imagine how Al does two hours a week!). Since the show came back for the fall, listenership has been sporadic. This will leave the written portion of Signifying Nothing as the main focus. I have a large backlog of reviews to post, plus some other features I’d like to implement. Let’s see what happens as we experiment with this new format. Hopefully, people care enough to check it…

Madball, Mind Eraser, Ringworm, The Rival Mob, xFilesx
The Rival Mob Bitter Rivals Demo 2007 Members of XFilesX, Mind Eraser, and others come together to combine the best parts of early Madball and Ringworm into some brutal contemporary hardcore. Very heavy riffs and great mosh parts. This band has run a bit under my rader, but I am looking into more by them for sure.

Black Flag, Dry Rot, Gone, Mind Eraser, Painted Willie, Parts Unknown Records, Saccharine Trust
Dry Rot Philistine LP Parts Unknown Records Dry Rot have been a band who came highly recommended from many friends. Didn’t they tour with Mind Eraser one summer too? Cool. I have enjoyed their many eps in the past, but they never really pulled me in where I would listen to them a lot. That has changed a bit with their new LP on Parts Unknown. Manic hardcore bouncing between power violence and the free jazz influenced style of SST bands like Saccharine Trust (a member of whom played on this record!), Black Flag, Gone, Painted Willie, etc. This is…
