In The Blink Of An Eye Fanzine #2: The Reviews

These were the reviews from In The Blink Of An Eye Fanzine #2 (#1 was a brief one pager that a few of these reviews appeared in originally). After a few issues of What Was Said, I switched names and tried pretty unsuccessfully to reboot the fanzine. A lot of the same problems that plagued WWS were all over this one too. This came out in the summer of 1998. I am thinking late in the month of August perhaps? I did not do another fanzine for about eight months before the first issue of Parade Brigade Fanzine came together.…

Slayer-Hatebreed @ Convention Hall In Asbury Park NJ 1-25-02

Sort of randomly, I decided to go see Slayer early in 2002. Honestly, I do not remember how this happened but Jim Lundy and I drove up and were surprised to find Hatebreed was playing too. I was never a big fan of Hatebreed, but I checked them out and they were fine. I ran into a few shitheads from high school who were way into Hatebreed, brah. It was pretty cool that they had Judge rip off shirts, although nowadays tons of bands do and it is pretty stupid. Slayer were…Slayer. They played all the hits and the crowd…

Madball-Hatebreed-Fury Of V at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ April 1998

Wait, why is a Floorpunch video above? Well, I skipped that Floorpunch gig because I went to see Madball either the day before or the next day. I think at least. I am pretty sure I could only have one night off, so I went to see Madball. Odd choice? Not really. Madball were one of the best, if not best, live bands of that era. I think CJ and I went to this show. I don’t remember who else played this besides these bands, but maybe Second To None did too? I don’t really remember anything about Fury Of…

Anchors Away-Nuckin Futs

Anchors Away Nuckin Futs CD Significant Records Thanks to Significant for sending this one over recently. Anchors Away play pretty atypical modern hardcore. There is a posi youth crew feel to it with a bit too much chugga Hatebreed style breaks and mosh parts for me. I can imagine people kick boxing to this. I have to pass on this one, but if you like this stuff check it out.

Ice Pick-Gold Rush

Icepick Gold Rush CD Not Just Words Records No, not the Icepick with members of Crown of Thornz + Hatebreed. This is the European one. The easy comparison here would be to Germany’s True Blue, who share Icepick’s obvious love of The Cro-Mags, Leeway, and Bad Brains. I definitely prefer True Blue, but this Icepick CD holds up well. Much of it reminds me of Best Wishes era Cro-Mags. Fast, slightly metallic, and to the point. There are no sick mosh parts like Death Camps, but nonetheless this is very good. Judge for yourself by checking out an mp3 on…

Damage II

Anthony did this one for Fuck Rock Fanzine. I didn’t even know this interview existed until he sent it to me a few months ago. Actually, I don’t think I’ve even heard Damage II before. I know I saw the first Damage once and they had a bunch of songs with Simpsons themed names which was pretty cool. Thanks again for taking time out to do the interview. How are things going with Damage II? Are the upcoming west coast dates coming together? Damage II is going real well, things are moving a little slow, but we’re still getting somewhere.…

25 Ta Life

I did this interview with Rick Healey of the band 25 Ta Life via mail in June of 1996 *** What are the band members names? Beto-GuitarRick-Vocals Harry-Drums Warren-Bass Fred-Guitar *** How long have you guys been together? 25 Ta Life first started in February of 1993 after I went on tour with Agnostic Front. I came back from the tour, Agnostic Front was breaking up, and I wanted to start a band similar to Agnostic Front; a band about the scene, about sticking together, to educate the kids, to motivate people, and get them active doing fanzines, helping each…

Reach The Sky

I did this interview with Ian from the band Reach The Sky via email in December of 1998. *** So let’s put the rumors to rest: Are you signing with Victory or Indecision? We signed to Victory Records. Indecision was interested earlier and we talked, but Victory is where we wanted to go. It’s definitely the best fit for us. *** 2. Why did you sign to Victory and what are you putting out with them? Well, we are releasing a seven inch in March of 1999 to lay the groundwork for a full length in the early summer. The…

Ensign

We did this interview at Princeton Arts Council in May of 1998. I believe this show was with Speak 714, Rain On The Parade, and Automatic. I can’t really tell you about what they are doing these days, but at the time we all really liked Ensign. A lot of my memories of that era have been soured over the years, but we used to have a lot of fun whenever Ensign played. Their first 7” has held up pretty well over the years. Justin and I handled most of the questions. When I went to type this up I…
