Agnostic Front-Madball-Crown Of Thornz-25 Ta Life-Corrupt-NJ Bloodline-Fury Of V @ Stone Pony Asbury Park NJ 4-19-97

I heard about Agnostic Front getting back together sometime the previous summer. I had at a gig and someone I knew just randomly threw it into a conversation. I was online by the summer of 96, but besides a few websites and IRC, was more engaged in dorky fan culture and anime stuff while I was online back then, so news had not reached me about this. They played a few shows that winter and then more in the spring, which included a show in DC and then this one in New Jersey. So while a ton of people went…

Ignite-Hands Tied-Fastbreak-Rain On The Parade-9 Lives at Fieldsboro NJ 4-20-97

The above video is from the day before at The Down Under in New Brunswick, but I went to see the newly reunited (and minus see crappy songs) Agnostic Front with Madball, Crown of Thornz, and some others. Seasonal allergies had just hit that week, so I was pretty sick after going crazy (and getting in a fight where like seven TOTALLY TOUGH AND SCARY skinheads went after me for DARING to try to break up a fight. One of them was like THIS IS NOT YOUR CONCERN. Oh, why didn’t you tell me this was SKINHEAD BUSINESS? Carry on!)…

Parade Brigade #3 The Reviews

Issue three would be the end of Parade Brigade Fanzine and, as promised in issue two, we mostly only reviewed records that were sent to us. Boy were some of these records awful! John and I handle most of the reviews with only the Carry On and Esteem records getting both of us. Issue four would have had a Carry On interview that I think John actually did…? Our friend Ryan, who did a lot of grunt work with me getting this issue thrown together as quickly as it was, jumped in to do a few reviews as well. 200…

Summer Reviews

Things have been slow around here lately. Some of it is lack of motivation, a lot of that stems from a decent downswing in readers/listeners, but also in content. I have not had a lot to say lately for some reasons that, maybe, I will write about sometime. *** Real Cops Demo Excellent NJHC that reminds me of bands like Full Speed Ahead and Tear It Up (who members of this band were in). I see a lot of potential here. *** Sucked Dry Demo Wow, another band that sounds like Cold Sweat is a big influence on them. Obviously, other bands like Crossed Out and Rorschach are also big influences. I…

Signifying Nothing Top 100 Of The Nineties

Four years late, here is the final list.  One thing I’ve noticed as I put this together is that there is a great lack of compilations on this list.  A lot of the decent compilations in the nineties have great songs, but also terrible ones.  I still feel like I am missing something obvious… 1.6 Band, Self Titled LP, USA, 1992 Acme, Self Titled 7″, Belgium, 1994 All Chrome, Flounders Flyers College & Canada LP, USA, 1999 Arms Reach, Self Titled 7″, Australia, 1998 Assuck, State To State 7″, USA, 1993 Aus-Rotten, Fuck Nazi Sympathy, USA, 1994 Bastard, Wind Of…

Newz U Can Uze

Aversion Online recently posted about one of my favorite bands from the mid 90’s, Crown of Thornz. These guys were great live, really heavy and got insane reactions from the crowd. Train Yard Blues is a great record. For awhile once we started getting our driver’s licenses we would go see these guys because we knew they covered The Hardway by Outburst. We only saw them do it once or twice but we always checked them out when they played New Jersey. The new issue of Stop, Look, & Listen Fanzine is out now. Check out their website for more…

Ice Pick-Gold Rush

Icepick Gold Rush CD Not Just Words Records No, not the Icepick with members of Crown of Thornz + Hatebreed. This is the European one. The easy comparison here would be to Germany’s True Blue, who share Icepick’s obvious love of The Cro-Mags, Leeway, and Bad Brains. I definitely prefer True Blue, but this Icepick CD holds up well. Much of it reminds me of Best Wishes era Cro-Mags. Fast, slightly metallic, and to the point. There are no sick mosh parts like Death Camps, but nonetheless this is very good. Judge for yourself by checking out an mp3 on…

Iron Boots-Easy Green

Iron Boots Easy Green 7” Grave Mistake Records Oh man, if you thought the Iron Boots demo plagiarized Warzone, it only gets worse here. The first song, War Dogs, is pretty much note for note Fighting For Our Country. I think there needs to be some sort of MLA citation format for when bands do this. The rest of the songs on this 7” are decent to above average 1988 NYHC style in the vein of the aforementioned Warzone. While I was pretty into the demo, even though I chuckle at some of the ridiculously blatant Warzone rip-off parts, this…
