After discovering Infest during the winter of 1996/1997, some of us checked out a lot of faster bands. This lead us deep into the power violence scene, which had some crossover with the more youth crew scene we were accustomed to (97a is a good example of this) checking out. We made our way towards the classics like No Comment and Crossed Out and also gravitated near bands like Rorschach, Capitalist Causalities, Acme, and others. This led to modern bands like Charles Bronson, MK Ultra, and, of course, Spazz. Oddly, there was little internet hype for this tour. I actually…

Things have been slow around here lately. Some of it is lack of motivation, a lot of that stems from a decent downswing in readers/listeners, but also in content. I have not had a lot to say lately for some reasons that, maybe, I will write about sometime. *** Real Cops Demo Excellent NJHC that reminds me of bands like Full Speed Ahead and Tear It Up (who members of this band were in). I see a lot of potential here. *** Sucked Dry Demo Wow, another band that sounds like Cold Sweat is a big influence on them. Obviously, other bands like Crossed Out and Rorschach are also big influences. I…

Four years late, here is the final list. One thing I’ve noticed as I put this together is that there is a great lack of compilations on this list. A lot of the decent compilations in the nineties have great songs, but also terrible ones. I still feel like I am missing something obvious… 1.6 Band, Self Titled LP, USA, 1992 Acme, Self Titled 7″, Belgium, 1994 All Chrome, Flounders Flyers College & Canada LP, USA, 1999 Arms Reach, Self Titled 7″, Australia, 1998 Assuck, State To State 7″, USA, 1993 Aus-Rotten, Fuck Nazi Sympathy, USA, 1994 Bastard, Wind Of…

Crossed Out, DropDead, Dry Rot, Mind Eraser, Painkiller Records, Rupture, Scapegoat
Scapegoat S/T 7″ Painkiller Records When I first got this record a friend sent me a zip file of mp3s so I could listen to it in the car. While walking across campus down at Stockton one day after meeting with a former professor about graduate school stuff I toggled through my player and queued up Mind Eraser, Rupture, Crossed Out, and this new Scapegoat record. I didn’t really think about it; I just got in my truck and bolted back onto the parkway. On my way back into Manahawkin I looked down at my player because I thought the…

Crossed Out, Deep Six Records, Infest, Napalm Death, Negative Approach, Raw Deal, Raw Power, Ripcord, Septic Death, Siege, Void
Siege Drop Dead Reissue Deep Six Records This is a reissue of this highly influental band’s recorded output. Siege played brutal hardcore that, at the time, had only been seen in bands like Void and Negative Approach. The bands influenced by Siege could go on forever: Infest, Napalm Death, Ripcord, Septic Death, Crossed Out, and so on. The reissue combines their demo (perhaps the best ever? Maybe. Raw Power & Raw Deal may have something to say about that.), their contributions to the Cleanse The Bacteria compilation plus two unreleased songs that I have heard live versions of before but…

I did this one with Luke through the mail sometime in early 1999. Arms Reach were one of the best bands of the 90’s, I wish there was a proper discography so more people could be turned on to these guys. Who is in the band? The Arms Reach unit consists of Christy (22)-guitar, Amy (21)-guitar, Squelchy (22)-drums, Ben “bass of death” (22)-bass, and me, Luke Crew (23) on vocals. I think it’s really cool that you guys did a split demo, how did that come about? Well both us and Found My Direction started around the same time (March…
