Count Me Out-True Blue-Striking Distance-Time Flies-Go Time-Desperate Measures-Faded Grey @ Manahawkin Elks Lodge Manahawkin NJ 7-14-01

What a week! I had car issues earlier in this week that nearly led me to wrecking my car, so there was a lot of nonsense about getting it fixed, paying for that, etc. I was really glad this show was right across town (literally down the street from the high school we all attended and that I would later work at for years). The big draw was True Blue, but Count Me Out and Time Flies had become two of the bigger bands in hardcore during this time. I don’t remember much about Desperate Measures. Isn’t someone from that…

Mouthpiece-Count Me Out-The Killing Flame-Intention @ The Kill Time Philadelphia PA 10-21-00

Late 2000 was a weird time in my life. I was about to finish community college and had really pushed away a lot of my friends. This was right around when a lot of people began breaking edge and getting heavy into partying and whatnot. Even on campus, I had been spending a lot more time with a friend I made in a Gender Studies class (who was kind of hardcore scene ajace) than whoever was left from our original crew. I was also taking back to back to back classes, none of which I really liked, so I went…

Count Me Out-True Blue-Striking Distance-Time Flies-Third Degree @ Manahawkin Elks Lodge Manahawkin NJ 7-14-01

Hey, a show in my hometown! The Elks Lodge in Manahawkin hosted a few shows around this time as it seemed the NJHC scene was transitioning around a number of venues in places like Manasquan, Old Bridge, and Brick. This also worked out really well for me because I had gotten in a car accident earlier that week on the way to work. I was fine, although it could have been really, really, bad, but my car needed some work. Thankfully, I grabbed a ride with someone and headed over to the show. The big draw for me at this…

Burn-Count Me Out @ The Rotunda In Philadelphia PA 7-1-01

I hated every moment of this show besides when Burn was playing more or less. First, it was disgustingly hot. The AC in my car broke, so when it began raining as we went over the bridge, I had to open my windows a bit so they would not fog up, which meant everyone got wet. We finally found parking and met up at a friend’s apartment and headed to the show with him, but not before his dogs tried to eat my shoes, which everyone thought was so fucking funny. I hate dogs. The rain had let up, but it…

Vision-Count Me Out at Montclair, NJ Spring 2000

I remember I worked all day and then we drove up to this show, which was quite a hike from Manahawkin. I spent a lot of time hanging out at this show outside, so I have no idea who else played besides Count Me Out. Vision had a new record out, so their set was littered with songs from it plus all the classics like Falling Apart, which you can see above. We must have rolled with two cars of people, because there are a ton of Manahawkin kids at this show. I had not eaten all day, so you…

In The Blink Of An Eye Fanzine #2: The Reviews

These were the reviews from In The Blink Of An Eye Fanzine #2 (#1 was a brief one pager that a few of these reviews appeared in originally). After a few issues of What Was Said, I switched names and tried pretty unsuccessfully to reboot the fanzine. A lot of the same problems that plagued WWS were all over this one too. This came out in the summer of 1998. I am thinking late in the month of August perhaps? I did not do another fanzine for about eight months before the first issue of Parade Brigade Fanzine came together.…

Parade Brigade Fanzine #1: The Reviews

We put out Parade Brigade Fanzine #1 in the spring of 1999. I have no idea what show we released it for, but I think it was at Manville Elks Lodge. Maybe. Amendment 18 Demo This band has members of a number of bands (Insted, Chorus Of Disapproval, Outspoken, etc) I had different expectations for this demo expecting more moshy stuff, but I got straight forward hardcore with interesting breakdowns. Lyrically, this isn’t as “militant,” as xChorusx was, but good all around especially “Eulogy.” I look forward to more. BW Bane Holding This Moment Equal Vision Records Bane sort of…

Winter Reviews

Innumerable Forms Frozen To Death Tape Chris Corry and DFJ’s death metal project put out a seven inch a few years back, but this tape shows a lot of progression. The tape has two new songs and the three songs from their previous ep remixed for this new release. I am not so sure how many copies of this tape were made, but track it down if you enjoyed their seven inch. Confined Demo 2012 Pretty generic hardcore somewhere, I am not sure which is more of an influence, between Chain of Strength influenced bands like Champion and Count Me…

Cloak/Dagger-Pinata 7″

Cloak/Dagger Pinata 7″ Grave Mistake Records This one was a pleasant surprise. Members of Count Me Out and American Nightmare playing indie rock flavored early eighties hardcore. Pinata is equal parts Hot Snakes and Circle Jerks. One of my friends mentioned The Buzzcocks when listening to this band. This record is pretty catchy and interesting; I am sure I will listen to it again. They recently signed to Jade Tree Records.

Weapon X

Weapon X was a band who only played one show at the Manville Elks Lodge on August 9th 1997. Members of Weapon X have also been in Ensign, Vision, The Purpose, Black Turns Green, Kurbjaw, A Death In The Family, and some others. I remember the week before Floorpunch, Vision, and 25 Ta Life played the same venue. In fact, Manville would be a consistent venue for a few years after this. Sometimes I really miss the place. It was easy to get to (go around the circle, go up six lights, make a left!), the people who ran it seemed to be really cool, and I always knew no matter what show I…
