Parade Brigade #3 The Reviews

Issue three would be the end of Parade Brigade Fanzine and, as promised in issue two, we mostly only reviewed records that were sent to us. Boy were some of these records awful! John and I handle most of the reviews with only the Carry On and Esteem records getting both of us. Issue four would have had a Carry On interview that I think John actually did…? Our friend Ryan, who did a lot of grunt work with me getting this issue thrown together as quickly as it was, jumped in to do a few reviews as well. 200…

Parade Brigade Fanzine #1: The Reviews

We put out Parade Brigade Fanzine #1 in the spring of 1999. I have no idea what show we released it for, but I think it was at Manville Elks Lodge. Maybe. Amendment 18 Demo This band has members of a number of bands (Insted, Chorus Of Disapproval, Outspoken, etc) I had different expectations for this demo expecting more moshy stuff, but I got straight forward hardcore with interesting breakdowns. Lyrically, this isn’t as “militant,” as xChorusx was, but good all around especially “Eulogy.” I look forward to more. BW Bane Holding This Moment Equal Vision Records Bane sort of…

Stick Together-Beware-Born Annoying-Secret Police @ Brick VFW 6-25-12

I needed to go back to the shore while on vacation to see my parents, so it was great I could time this visit with a Monday night show in Brick. My pal Bob Shedd booked this one at the old Brick VFW, one of seemingly numerous VFW halls in Brick, where bands like Breakdown, The Casualties, Righteous Jams, and many others have played over the years. After leaving the shore in an absolute downpour, I got up to Brick and got lost because my GPS crapped out. However, I started recognizing some landmarks and made it to the show…

Winter Reviews

Innumerable Forms Frozen To Death Tape Chris Corry and DFJ’s death metal project put out a seven inch a few years back, but this tape shows a lot of progression. The tape has two new songs and the three songs from their previous ep remixed for this new release. I am not so sure how many copies of this tape were made, but track it down if you enjoyed their seven inch. Confined Demo 2012 Pretty generic hardcore somewhere, I am not sure which is more of an influence, between Chain of Strength influenced bands like Champion and Count Me…

November 2011 Reviews

Sick Fucking O Demo Members of Voorhees are back with a new band that sounds like…Voorhees. Obviously, not as classic as Spilling Blood Without Reason, but good angry 82 era hardcore that will be enjoyed by fans of Voorhees for sure. Cool Devo cover at the end. Defile Demo 2010 Fast, angry, hardcore somewhere between midwestern style and power violence. I bet live you can hear a bit of Rorschach in their sound too. I’d like to hear more. Slowburn Demo Members of a variety of NJHC bands including Spirit, Vision, and Floorpunch playing melodic, Turning Point, style hardcore. This…

Reviews For The Week Of August 8th

I don’t need to explain this one. Bad Brains 171A Sessions 7″ Has anyone else noticed that a lot of Bad Brains demos are popping up the past few years? These are three versions of songs you probably know, but heavier than say the Black Dots session. A live, horrible, reggae song ends the record. Not really that essential. Waste Management Tape Members of Mind Eraser, etc doing really ILL Boston 82 hardcore ala SSD. The best part about this one is the pleading, furious, Springa style vocals. One of the best bands going today. There is a live set…

Mouthpiece-Can’t Kill What’s Inside

Mouthpiece Can’t Kill What’s Inside Discography CD Revelation Records What more can really be said about Mouthpiece at this point? I’m sure you know their story and how influential they were on 1990’s straight edge hardcore that didn’t sound like Pantera or some emo bullshit. This CD has everything I could ever think to include and more in reverse order, from their final recording on the Antimatter Fanzine compilation all the way back to very early live tracks that never made it to the studio. Most of Mouthpiece’s records have held up at least moderately well. Some parts of Face…

Onward

This one originally appeared in Talk Is Cheap Fanzine. *** Can you give us a history of Onward, and what have you been up to lately? Onward were formed in late 1990. In spite of lack of members, equipment, and time we put out a demo in May 1991 that got us a deal with Crucial Response. We got some equipment and a steady lineup after recording our 7”. We toured Europe with Blindfold in August 1992, and in April 1993 we recorded our debut album which is finally out now (also on Crucial Response). The album is 1000 times…

Judge-Where It Went: The Complete Discography

Judge Where It Went: The Complete Discography CD Revelation Records What more can really be said about Judge that has not already been said? This discography contains all of their released material- NY Crew Ep, Bringin It Down LP, Chung King Can Suck It LP, There Will Be Quiet… EP, plus a couple demo tracks. All of this is great and all, but I have a problem-Why isn’t the complete demo on here? Oh wait, they need a “bonus track” for the vinyl. What a bunch of bullshit. It’s called a fucking “discography” for a reason. Why would I shell…
