Reviews For The Week Of August 1st

Full Speed Ahead at their reunion show a few months ago. I didn’t even know this happened until I saw the video on YouTube… Boston Strangler Demo Somewhere between Impact Unit and SSD (aka sounds like Fit For Abuse!) comes Boston Strangler. A quick five track demo of ugly 82 hardcore. More soon? Gone But Not Forgotten Seattle Crew Demo Hey, this is pretty good! Somewhere near Confront and Floorpunch, this demo is good Straight Edge hardcore complete with hooded edgeman on the cover. Negative Approach Friends Of No One 7″ Taang Records What is with the cover? A cartoonish…

Public Safety

V/A Public Safety Compilation Maximum Rock N Roll Records For a substantial period of time this record has been hyped to death. At one point there seemed to be some mystery about who exactly was even going to be on the compilation. The long wait wasn’t really worth it for me. This isn’t a bad compilation necessarily; there are some great bands like Direct Control, Nightmare, and Signal Lost. Most of the bands don’t really seem to bring their A-Game however. Beyond that, even the bands I don’t enjoy are so unpleasant that I find myself jumping around. The best…

July 8th 2006: Forward To Death-Government Warning-Career Suicide-Splitting Headache-Wasted Time

July 8th 2006 Forward To Death–Government Warning–Career Suicide–Splitting Headache–Wasted Time This was my first show in awhile. I made the quick journey up to Toms River alone this time around. I think Dave had to work at the last minute and well, that’s about the only other person who goes to shows with me around here. After getting dinner I hit up the Log Cabin, which is quickly becoming a great place for shows. New Jersey’s own Splitting Headache opened up and played a great set. They played a good mix of songs from their EP and some new ones,…

Career Suicide-Signals

Career Suicide Signals EP Slasher Records Career Suicide, much like their Canadian contemporaries Fucked Up, have never really captured my attention. I enjoyed them when I saw live a few years ago, but their records don’t really grab me. They are a good band; I am reminded of The Circle Jerks, Adolescents, and Weirdos when I listen to them. I just don’t see myself listening to this all that often.
