Crucial Intentions @ Manahawkin NJ Spring 1999

This show was at someone’s house I think, in a shed. I sang a Madball cover for them while I was really sick. I ended up going home and getting sick to my stomach and sleeping for like an entire day. They also covered a Brotherhood song. Did they record anything? I want to say there was a tape. That younger group of straight edge kids, already two generations removed from my crew, by then was not really hanging around with me, but they did with my brother. He might know better than I would.

Antidote-Full Speed Ahead @ The Black Cat In Red Bank NJ 3-24-99

The Black Cat was Ari Katz (Lifetime, Enuf, Up Front)’s record store. We went there a bunch of times and picked up good records. They did this and maybe a few other shows? I remember we talked in and the dude working there put on the Release 7”, which we dug. John moshed around the store. Antidote got back together and played this show and one other at Casino Skate Park. Oddly enough, they had Carl The Mosher on bass. This led to many calls for Icemen songs. Remember how hard we all looked for soundboards and then suddenly there was…

Winter 2012 Reviews

Nomos Demo Great 82 style hardcore from this New York band. There are a lot of modern influences on this band’s demo including Cold Sweat, The Snobs, and other, hey, early 00 bands. I would like to hear more. Our Side Demo Really raw, late eighties, influenced hardcore in the vein of Release, Youth Of Today, and Four Walls Falling. With a better recording, I sense this band could be pretty good. I want to hear more. Pigsticker Demo I really like this demo. Pigsticker reminds me a cross between Circle Jerks and Necros with sloppy, raw, production values that sounds pretty authentic to the early eighties…

No Tolerance-Demo

No Tolerance Demo This Is Edge Day Records Wow! No Tolerance, featuring members of Mind Eraser, are one of the few modern Straight Edge bands who can even attempt to hold my attention. This bands play my favorite style of late eighties Straight Edge hardcore in the vein of classics like Brotherhood and Confront. Pretty heavy and “hard” without the idiocy normally attributed to that. I really want to hear more.

Loud & Clear-Self Titled

Loud & Clear Self Titled LP Powered Records Loud & Clear are a new band with members of Dead Stop & Justice. Not surprisingly based on their namesake, Loud & Clear remind me a lot of The Abused and later 1980’s Straight Edge hardcore like Youth of Today and Brotherhood. Incidentally this also reminds me a bit of the XClaim! demo I helped distribute/put out back in the late nineties. In an era of slick youth crew bands with absolutely no substance this record is pretty raw sounding. This record is exactly what this genre should be sounding like in…
