Full Speed Ahead-The Explosion-Stag Party-Born Annoying-Defiance Engine-Manalive @ Asbury Park NJ 7-26-14

This was supposed to be a secret show, which was not kept very well, for Bl’ast! on the east coast. They ended up cancelling their tour, but the show goes on with The Explosion replacing them. I debated not going to this show after a few friends bailed on it, but figured I could check out Full Speed Ahead again. The show time apparently got pushed back, so this show ended up going really late. After a dreadful time finding parking, I got to the show before any band had even played. This was going to be a long night.…

Show Review: Supertouch @ Asbury Lanes 2-3-12

I haven’t seen Supertouch since the middle of the nineties or so, so I was pretty excited about seeing them. Especially since it was an all ages show as well. I’ve heard mixed reviews of recent Supertouch gigs, but checking some videos on Youtube made it seem like they were tight and played all the classics people in New Jersey want to hear. After a day of teaching, I went home and ate dinner and then hung out for a few hours before making the hourish trek up to Asbury Park. I missed a few of the openers, including Born…

Winter 2012 Reviews

Nomos Demo Great 82 style hardcore from this New York band. There are a lot of modern influences on this band’s demo including Cold Sweat, The Snobs, and other, hey, early 00 bands. I would like to hear more. Our Side Demo Really raw, late eighties, influenced hardcore in the vein of Release, Youth Of Today, and Four Walls Falling. With a better recording, I sense this band could be pretty good. I want to hear more. Pigsticker Demo I really like this demo. Pigsticker reminds me a cross between Circle Jerks and Necros with sloppy, raw, production values that sounds pretty authentic to the early eighties…

November 2011 Reviews

Sick Fucking O Demo Members of Voorhees are back with a new band that sounds like…Voorhees. Obviously, not as classic as Spilling Blood Without Reason, but good angry 82 era hardcore that will be enjoyed by fans of Voorhees for sure. Cool Devo cover at the end. Defile Demo 2010 Fast, angry, hardcore somewhere between midwestern style and power violence. I bet live you can hear a bit of Rorschach in their sound too. I’d like to hear more. Slowburn Demo Members of a variety of NJHC bands including Spirit, Vision, and Floorpunch playing melodic, Turning Point, style hardcore. This…

Reviews For The Week of August 22nd

If you haven’t check out the interview Double Cross did with Jules from Side By Side, the final part of the interview has been posted online. Depending on the interviewee, DCXXX can be pretty hit or miss, but this one is really good.   Supertouch Lost My Way 7″ Reaper Records Sounding, and looking, like something out of the stuff that post hardcores put out in the late 1990’s, you know, when they “grew up” and discovered beer and Oasis, this is not surprising, but still pretty disappointing. I wish bands that only had half their members and a new…
