Show Review: Agnostic Front-The Last Stand-Ensign @ Asbury Lanes

After hearing that Agnostic Front was doing a “theme” set for their thirtieth anniversary of the “Live At CB’s” set, I figured I should check it out. Now, obviously, I am not exactly the biggest fan of their newer work. Actually, I don’t like any AF records post Victim In Pain. Nevertheless, the live record is pretty ill and in a live setting songs like Toxic Shock and Strength sound great. I can definitely get into that. I made the trek up to Asbury Park after a quiet day of errands and just hanging out. I caught the last few…

Siamese Twins Demo More Nu-Shoegazer stuff from this band. I seem to be checking out a lot of these bands lately. This six song demo is pretty good, but not something that is really drawing my attention that much. I’m not a big fan of Catherine Wheel and that, along with a bit of Lush, is what this demo reminds me of. There are some elements of The Cure or Sisters of Mercy immersed in their sound as well, which is a little different but nevertheless not really my thing. Big shoegazer fans will want to check this out. Outlast New Jersey…

November 2011 Reviews

Sick Fucking O Demo Members of Voorhees are back with a new band that sounds like…Voorhees. Obviously, not as classic as Spilling Blood Without Reason, but good angry 82 era hardcore that will be enjoyed by fans of Voorhees for sure. Cool Devo cover at the end. Defile Demo 2010 Fast, angry, hardcore somewhere between midwestern style and power violence. I bet live you can hear a bit of Rorschach in their sound too. I’d like to hear more. Slowburn Demo Members of a variety of NJHC bands including Spirit, Vision, and Floorpunch playing melodic, Turning Point, style hardcore. This…

This Week’s Memo

One of my students pointed this out the other day: our War-Pig-In-Chief Barack Obama continues the wars of the previous administration (and seems to be moving them to Pakistan as well). So much for “change,” suckers. My student then commented sarcastically, “boy, isn’t it great that there are monthly protests in Washington to end the war since Obama got in?” Oh. Whoops. Yeah. Funny how that all stopped once Bush was out of office. Democrats are just as pathetic as Republicans. The only reason anyone marches now is when Jon Stewart commands it. How pathetic. Monsanto, Coca Cola, Microsoft, and Blackwater…

Rain On The Parade

This is the interview I did with Rain On The Parade in April of 1997. Originally in What Was Said Fanzine. 1. Okay, who is in the band and all that crap? My name is Ronnie and I sing. DII plays one guitar. Justin plays the other. Matt jumps around with his bass. Chris just joined the band. He plays drums. 2. Have you guys gotten any shit for the lyrics to Body Bag? You know, with the way all this metal slop has taken over hardcore in the past few years, you’d think we’d catch some slack for writing…
